The Central St Martins Commute follows the hypothetical commute for students at UAL. This film plays on the stereotypes of UAL students. As we follow each student running across iconic landmarks in London we learn a little bit more about them. This crew and cast were made up UAL students, from the designers to, camera operators all the way to the models. “Hometown Glory” Nov 24 This project aims to explore the musical talents of the young generation, particularly those shaping their identities through a connection to home and their emotional experiences. Marcus Cheung, discovered a music talent in London College of Communication, at the University of the Arts London: a university renowned for nurturing future talent from diverse communities worldwide. In the realm of music, the project seeks to engage with individuals who are still developing their careers and have not yet entered the industry. Tata Cheng, a 22-year-old Hong Kong native, currently resides in London and is pursuing a Sound Arts: Experimental Music degree at LCC. His interest in music began at a young age, and he enjoys reading, playing the guitar, and listening to folk, rock, and experimental music with a focus on improvisation and soundscape composition. During our conversations, Cheng’s personality emerged as calm and composed. He deeply appreciated nature and wildlife, often venturing to the countryside to conduct field recordings. Regarding music, he described it as a liberating experience, likening it to a “visual-centric world that transcends language.” Cheng emphasized that music is a place of imagination, allowing individuals to express their emotions freely. He highlighted the ability of music to foster a sense of belonging by enabling interactions with others without the need for language. The final photographs illustrate the artist’s idea of home, and how he connects the sound of music to his personal emotion and a feeling of belonging, in nature, rock music, passion and support from his partner. All made and styled by me (Zoe) We chose the graveyard not as a place of mourning, but as a stage for reimagining what a farewell can be. The garment began with a reflection on the fear of death, the fear of the unknown, of leaving everything behind, and the quiet sorrow that lingers in the heart. But rather than being consumed by that fear, we wanted to transform it. In this space of remembrance, we imagined our own goodbye, not as something dark or somber, but as a celebration. The graveyard becomes symbolic: not an end, but a canvas for love, memory, and expressive freedom. It‘s where sorrow dances with joy, and the absurd reminds us of that life, even in its final chapter, can be full of beauty.
