Noiascape is pleased to present A Tiny Room of Hong Kong, an ongoing project by Hong Kong–born, London-based artist Jimmi Wing Ka Ho. The exhibition explores archival materials from Hong Kong’s so-called “Golden Age” under British colonial rule, examining how images and narratives from this period continue to shape cultural memory, while also challenging how it is perceived and understood.
Jimmi Wing Ka Ho is a multidisciplinary visual artist working across photography, found materials, and installation. His practice investigates themes of migration, colonial history, and visual memory. His recent exhibition Invisible City, presented in collaboration with the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne, traced the visible and invisible remnants of German colonial rule within the Chinese metropolis of Qingdao.
In A Tiny Room of Hong Kong, Jimmi extracts, distorts, and recomposes historical brochures and media, questioning how archival materials construct both personal and collective memories of the city. The exhibition invites audiences to reconsider their perceptions of urban history: what is remembered or forgotten, what remains unseen, and what continues to persist.
