Comeptition - the bored fire out today on glint music Competition is someone that i’ve personally followed for years and have always been infatuated with the music of l ever since I saw a show they played in the old dentist for Slip Imprint way back. When we got to release Pomme last year it was a dream come true and for Craig to trust us again with this one is another. 10 songs of ‘mild-pop’ or autotuned vocals and guitar that further explore the softness of Competition’s music with a new somehow more delicate touch. By his own admission this record is indebted to the recordings of more eaze and claire rousay, with an anchor firmly placed in Craig’s native Newcastle - a field recording of the city’s forgotten ‘Monument Mall’ plays throughout the record, asking us to place memories on memories, making new whilst parts of the past bleed over the top, eternally. ‘reluctantly hauntological, 2026’ the bored fire: out now on all platforms including Nina, Bandcamp, Soundcloud + streaming. Based in Newcastle (UK), Competition makes experimental pop music that plays with sparseness and vulnerability, pitched down samples and orchestral programming, crafting songs that build hooks from within their limited materials. Recent releases on London’s @glint_music have seen a tentative return to the electric guitar - having (admittedly) felt for years that playing guitar was deeply embarrassing, this renewed interest accepts the way the world keeps spinning and, as ever, time renders all things eternally untethered. Craig put on the first ever @_birdbrains gigs back in 2018, and it is a real treat to be bringing him to Leeds for this v special show.
