I've felt a lack of appetite for this app of late. But when I do come look I'm happy to see what people are doing. I appreciate people starting newsletters and tending to online spaces with more autonomy. I'm probably not leaving yet I just want to express my curiosity for other ways of staying connected and spying on eachother. I actually love to see you all here I just don't love my attention being leached on. Anyway, as it's December I plan to spew onto the grid everything that belongs to this year I've held back on sharing, show me yours too.
Meet the Costume Designer Behind Down Amongst the Plants, Toi Guy 🌱
Commissioned by Surface Area Dance Theatre in collaboration with Laing Art Gallery, the work features choreographer Vangeline of the New York Butoh Institute and reflects Nerys Johnson’s deep fascination with the rhythms of nature. Through the lens of Butoh, the piece explores the interplay between human and plant forms. Videographer Elijah McDonnell captures the creative process behind the scenes.
As part of this project, multidisciplinary artist and costume designer Toi Guy brings their distinctive creative practice to shaping the costumes for the production, drawing on organic forms and the transformative qualities at the heart of the work.
Down Amongst the Plants is now available for touring in 2026/27 to a range of venues, including museums and gardens. To learn more, please contact SADT at [email protected].

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
We raised over £1000 pounds at our last fundraiser, which we used to pay off some of our large VAT bill. We are hugely grateful for all the support and donations, but the tax man is relentless and voracious. Once again we are asking for your help to stave off the tax man and pay a chunk of our VAT bill.
We have arranged to pay our bill in instalments which means we can continue to exist, but it has a huge impact on our day to day running. We already struggled before this bill and these fundraisers make a massive difference. We have started the Lubber Kitchen as one way to make the venue more sustainable in the long term, but its early days for that venture and it will take time for that to help us financially.
If you like the venue and what we do, and enjoy the weird and wonderful music we programme, then please consider coming along - if you can’t make it in person you can always donate online through the link in our bio.
