“Music isn’t just a pleasure, a transient satisfaction. It’s a need, a deep hunger; and when the music is right, it’s joy. Love. A foretaste of heaven.” —Orson Scott Card

World Theatre Day 2026 - ‘Theatre and a Culture of Peace’
In times filled with conflict and division, art becomes more than just a reflection. it becomes a safe space for our shared humanity. While news and reports focus on numbers and strategies, art looks deeper into the emotions and inner lives of people going through these struggles. By turning the chaos of war into creative expression, performance, and storytelling, we help people connect beyond differences, creating space for empathy to grow even in the hardest situations.
Told by My Mother - (2021)
Director/Choreographer @alichahrour1
Told by My Mother is a powerful dance theatre piece that shifts the story of conflict away from politics and into the personal space of home and family. It focuses on the real-life experiences of mothers and families, turning their personal pain into a shared story of strength and survival.
The play focuses on personal loss instead of politics, which helps the audience feel strong empathy. It removes labels that usually divide people and shows the real human cost of violence. At its heart is the relationship between a mother and her child, something everyone can understand, regardless of background, religion, or country.
In the play, remembering those who were lost is shown as a quiet yet powerful way to protest. By keeping their memories alive, the performers stand against the violence that tries to erase them.
Since it is a dance theatre piece, it does not rely on spoken language. The movements of the body express deep emotions that words often cannot, making it easy for people from different cultures to connect with them.
Ultimately, Told by My Mother is not positioned as a political critique but as a ritual of healing. It focuses on the enduring power of love and the resilience of the human spirit. By highlighting the commonality of loss and the search for peace, Chahrour’s work suggests that recognizing our mutual vulnerability is the first step toward a culture of peace.

- This is what a quiet revolution looks like.
To the musicians.
To the dreamers still waiting for a fair stage.
A reminder that artists don’t exist to serve structures,
structures should serve artists.
The shift has already begun.
And it’s bigger than one name.
