Celebrating the 165th birth anniversary of one of the world’s greatest visionaries and cultural icons, Rabindranath Tagore, who was born on this day, 7 May 1861, in Kolkata.
Tagore’s songs and poetry have been an integral part of my musical journey for many decades. His world was one of profound aesthetics, spirituality, and extraordinary musical authority.
In 1989, at the request of Saregama India (formerly HMV), I had the privilege of recording an album with Suchitra Mitra featuring some of Tagore’s most beautiful compositions. The project was titled Tribute to Tagore.
It brings me immense joy to see so many gifted young Rabindrasangeet artistes today carrying forward his timeless legacy. Through his poetry and music, Tagore beautifully conveyed the universal message of love, compassion, romance, and the unity of humanity. 🙏🙏
