Ahead of #mothersday this Sunday, we’re looking back on a heartfelt moment from @allendeisabel ’s talk last year with former First Lady @drbiden on how she marks the holiday in the absence of her late mother and daughter, which may resonate with anyone who associates the holiday with loss.

This #AAPIHeritageMonth, we’re highlighting a moment from @your.richbff ’s talk with @hannahwilliamsllc where she explains how the “bamboo ceiling” can hold Asian Americans back from advancing at work and encourages an audience member to recognize her worth. You can find the full talk on our podcast and YouTube channel, along with other talks from AAPI guests to keep the conversation going throughout the month and beyond.

If you’re looking for work and the job market has you all worked up, you’re not alone: DC has the highest unemployment rate in the country, and it can feel like a scary time for anyone looking for their first job or contemplating a career change. This week, to celebrate her new book #HowtoStart, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist @jodikantor offered practical and tangible career tips alongside journalist Derek Thompson and Dr. Anthony Fauci. Our favorite takeaways: ▪️People who are successful have a craft—some special skill they can offer the world. ▪️Figure out what role you play in your friend group for clues on what type of job may be right for you. ▪️Careers aren’t a straight line. Be prepared to pivot!

The How to Start launch event in Brooklyn was a little… unusual for a book talk. A fill for those who couldn’t make it– and in case you can join me in Miami (🏃🏽‍♀️tonight🏃🏽‍♀️), DC (🚨Tues🚨) Philly or LA or other cities. Hundreds of us gathered to discuss this book and the question: when so much is broken, how do you start? Priya Parker, Esther Perel and I dug into the guts of the book. Then, instead of a standard Q/A, we did *business.* Young people shared specific queries about how to start. One wants to be in radio. Another is seeking a job in sports journalism. We made a plan for them to meet up in various corners of the room with members of the generous crowd who gave them concrete advice, contact info and introductions. **Thank you** to @estherperelofficial and @priyaparker and everyone who came. Let’s see what we can accomplish tonight in Miami with @marygamarratv , DC on Tues with Dr. Anthony Fauci and Derek Thompson, Los Angeles 5/18 with @jasonsudeikis , Philly 5/19 with @mikesolomonov Pls spread the word….Tix and other dates at jodikantor.com/events. See you there!

United in losing loved ones to the conflict, Palestinian @azizabusarah and Israeli @maozinon forged a bond when the world expected them to be enemies. We’re grateful to have hosted the authors and lifelong peace activists last week for an uplifting and moving conversation with Rabbi Aaron on forgiveness, unity, and their new book, The Future is Peace.

“We are good enough for joy. We are worthy of it.” - Kate Bowler Thank you to @katecbowler and @rachelnpr for bringing much-needed joy and perspective to our stage last night during their chat about Kate’s new book, Joyful, Anyway. Their conversation was chock-full of tips for fueling that feeling even when life refuses to cooperate. Looking for more of that energy? Tune into Kate’s podcast, “Everything Happens,” where you’ll be able to hear this full conversation in the coming weeks.
