My portrait shoot with Robert Duvall a few years back was def one for the books. Like most celeb shoots for AP during that era, I was flying solo with a few strobes and a backdrop that I quickly built in the nearly vacant AP office in downtown LA.
Robert walked in with a commanding presence and stepped in front of my lens just moments after he arrived. No assistants or vanities. Just Robert and myself in a small room. While I was coaching him through his posturing, he stopped me and asked if I’d like him to perform instead. Of course I said YES.
These images are from Robert’s private performance where he played an annoyed New Yorker trying to explain a faster route to his cab driver.
Rest easy, you legend.

I had the pleasure of meeting Brian a few times, with the last meet being a photo shoot of him, John Cusack, and Paul Dano in a makeshift studio set up in a tiny hotel room in Beverly Hills.
Those who know me, know what a massive influence this man’s wild artistic abilities and child-like imagination have been in my life.
I’m sure he’s somewhere out there Honkin’ down a spiritual highway (for those of you who don’t get that reference, I encourage you to dig into some of the later and weirder Beach Boys records).
Columnated Ruins Domino.

Late night spontaneous macro shot of rain on a freshly polished iron table. I was drawn to the pearling of the water and interesting color patterns. Lit with a single @profoto strobe. #profotob1x #profotosharethelight
