I was recently informed that posting on the grid is extremely “uncool” now— which makes me think it’s the perfect time to return here with a recent project. A few months ago I photographed Michael and Sarah Hsu’s home for @archdigest . I’ve admired Michael’s work for a long time (@hsuoffice ), so getting to document this space — thoughtful, detailed, and at the best scale— was a real honor. The house sits just a few blocks from where I grew up. I must’ve walked that street a thousand times as a kid. Coming back to photograph it felt like a quiet full‑circle moment.

This extensive remodel in Sonoma, CA reimagines spaces through light, proportion, and material, bringing a renewed sense of unity to the home and making the most of dreamy views into the surrounding hills. Through a great collaborative effort between architects, interior designers and exceptional craftsmen, the space was thoughtfully refined rather than replaced. The dramatic section of the original house fills the space with natural light while doug fir elements thoughout ground it, making the space feel both intentional and relaxed. Big thanks to @archdigest for featuring this @baldridgearchitects project. A special house in the hill country that came to be when some lovely Austin folks bailed on the city and took to ranch life—what we all probably should’ve done in summer of 2020. Some images from the story along with some outtakes.

Last week we received the first copies of my latest book — a collaboration with @pentagramdesign and @hpesanti , documenting the vast assemblage of outdoor artwork and landscape at Paradox Cove (a private collection here in central Texas). I spent a large part of Covid year two working on this project, and I couldn’t be more proud of how the book turned out. While this edition of the book is not intended for resale, I have hopes that I’ll be able to share more of this body of work sometime in the future. For now, here is a peak at the cover.

Congrats to a talented group of designers who created the Theresa Passive House. @studioferme @forgexcraft @hughjeffersonrandolpharchitect —which took home a series of awards at the Austin Home and Design awards, including Best Overall Home. I normally don’t lead with a bathroom but this particular one felt worthy. Thanks to the team for having me out to capture this lovely project.

@archdigest recently featured this Lake Flato project that I photographed last summer. I’d followed along with the progress of this house as it was being constructed atop a gentle hill out in far West Texas-- and as a long time enthusiast of architecture in that part of the world was so thrilled to be asked to shoot it. Generally speaking, I think the story of any house could be well told in about 12 photographs, but with the breadth and detail of this project it was particularly difficult to edit it down to 8. As some of you may know, for the first time in my career I took some self directed time away from shooting over the past two months to spend with our new son, Jack. It's been both a break and also a great challenge, but I feel so grateful to have had the time and I feel as ready as I’ve ever been to start a new year. I’m hoping and looking forward seeing so many of you again soon in 2022. Thanks so much to @lakeflato and @archdigest for the assignment and placement. As always, a BIG thank you to @kaylynn_jaycox for her help with styling this shoot.
