Pray note that Capital Funk, ever eager to assemble the distinguished members of our cherished ton throughout the DMV, presents the illustrious 17th Annual Funk Academy. One would be remiss indeed to delay, for tickets have already begun to circulate amongst those wise enough to secure their place.
It promises to be a pleasure beyond measure to renew acquaintance with esteemed returning families, while also welcoming the most intriguing new additions to our ever-evolving society.

It is with the greatest delight that we announce the arrival of the final instructor to grace the halls of the Funk Academy Workshops. One can only imagine the extraordinary talent and scandalously impressive moves soon to be unveiled.
Miguel Ruiz is a New York based dancer with a strong connection to the dance showcase and competition scene in New York and New Jersey. Miguel has previously been a member of Outburst Dance Company and PUSO Modern. He has been fortunate enough to learn from numerous choreographers from both the East and West Coasts throughout his involvement in the community. Miguel currently teaches choreography classes at Peridance and Movers Bodega. He wishes to continue his training in dance so that he can continue to perform and hopefully inspire others to push their limitations as well as continue to teach classes to bring dancers together for a sense of community
Let us extend the warmest of welcomes to this distinguished addition to our esteemed circle. One can only wonder what marvelous surprises await under their careful guidance.
Dimonte Holland from Baltimore MD. As a professional dancer and choreographer signed under BLOC NYC Talent Agency, I’m eager to share my passion and expertise with your community.
With training from renowned instructors like Rob Bynes, Laura Edwards, Deshawn “Da Prince” Hawthorne, and Juwaan Walker, I’ve had the privilege of working with notable artists such as Coi Leray and Rauw Alejandro within a Carolina Herrera campaign. Major streaming services such as Netflix as well as prominent brands like Bombas and Under Armour .
My teaching philosophy focuses on empowering dancers to express themselves authentically, exploring story telling, vulnerability, and depth. My goal is for students to leave class feeling inspired, challenged, and uplifted, with a lasting sense of accomplishment.
The very first instructor of the esteemed Funk Academy workshops has stepped into the spotlight and what a figure they are. One can only wonder what delights, rhythms, and perhaps whispered secrets they shall unveil.
Do have a look… for this is merely the beginning.
Kristin Santiago is a movement artist, dance educator and choreographer from the DMV area specializing in the style of Whacking and movement based from Hip Hop. Her style is inspired by poetry and storytelling, with freestyle at the heart of her movement. She believes dance is a powerful way to share your story and encourages every dancer to embrace freestyle, history, and practice as key parts of the journey.
Kristin has trained with Culture Shock in both DC and LA, exploring and growing her craft.Teaching all levels of dance in both Whacking and in Choreography influenced with Hip Hop, she has taught in popular studios in the area such as Millennium Dance Complex, Offstage, Movement Lifestyle, Quest Dance Studio and the Kinjaz Dojo. She has also performed and worked with artists such as Ruby Ibarra, Jody Watley, and Ana Vee.
She’s passionate about building community through dance and creating spaces where creativity and connection can thrive.
