“Let’s go, Ray!”
There’s always that moment, right after the crowd dies down and just before the music starts, when I yell this out. I’ve done it for as long as I can remember. It wasn’t planned; it was just this instinctive thing I hoped they could hear, a little signal that I’m cheering them on.
It wasn’t until years later that I even asked if they did hear me. And it wasn’t until Ray’s last season that Izzy told me the whole team heard it every time and that it had actually become some sort of unofficial “start.” 🤣
Yesterday, after more than a year away from dance, Ray hit the stage at Prelude with his crew, Capital Funk and watching him back in his element was everything. Surrounded by young adults with real jobs, real responsibilities, and a shared love for dance, he has found such a good space. Everyone truly wants to be there, to have fun, and to lift each other up.
It didn’t matter that they didn’t take home the win, what mattered was that Ray and his team had fun onstage and, honestly, ever since he joined this crew. My heart is so full, and I can’t wait to see him perform again.
Seeing some of his former Adrenaline teammates out there competing with other teams was an extra bonus. And really, would it even be a Ray performance if he didn’t flip or spin at some point?! 🤣
Huge kudos to Adrenaline for the years of training that built his foundation, and to Capital Funk for embracing Ray and giving him a space to grow and have fun again.
This walk means more to us than words can say. đź’™
We’re joining AFSP’s Out of the Darkness Walk because suicide prevention is a cause that hits incredibly close to home. While we don’t share all the details, what we do share is our hope — for healing, for connection, and for change.
If you’ve been impacted too, or simply want to stand beside those who have, we’d be honored to have you walk with us — or support us however you can. Every step brings light to someone’s darkness.
Link in bio if you would like to donate.
