After San Blas came Brazil, the dunes and blue lagoons of Lençóis Maranhenses. A place so unreal, you’re not sure if you’re still on Earth And now… we want to share this. Not as a “tour operator”, not with loud slogans or 50 people following a flag, but with small, flexible groups, a lot of respect and a little bit of chaos — the good kind. Soon, we’ll announce a series of very limited journeys to places that feel almost impossible. Carefully designed, but never staged. Humble, raw, and unforgettable. Πρέπει να ξεφύλλισα το πρώτο μου περιοδικό National Geographic αρκετά πριν μάθω να διαβάζω. Ήταν ένα απο τα περιοδικά που μάζευε ο πατέρας μου και είχε εξώφυλλο έναν αναρριχιτή. Τα περιοδικά αυτά σχημάτισαν σε σημαντικό βαθμό την αισθητική μου και ενίσχυσαν την περιέργεια μου για τον κόσμο. Από τότε που έπιασα πρώτη φορά φωτογραφική μηχανή στα χέρια μου μέχρι σήμερα δεν σταμάτησε να αποτελεί όνειρο μου να καταφέρω μια μέρα να συνεργαστώ με το National Geographic, ποσό μάλλον σε συνεργασία με τον αδερφό μου Πέτρο που μαζί με τον πατέρα μου με διδαξαν όλα όσα ξέρω στην φωτογραφία και φυσικά τον αγαπημένο μου φίλο Αργύρη που κατέχει ένα σπάνιο ταλέντο. Σε αυτή την ανάρτηση θα ήθελα να ευχαριστήσω θερμά τον Περιφεριάρχη Κρήτης Σταύρο Αρναουτάκη, τον ειδικό σύμβουλο Δημήτρη Μιχελογιάννη και την Ιζαμπέλα Χριστοδούλουπου που εμπιστεύτηκαν την ματιά μας σε ένα τόσο σημαντικό έργο παραγωγής οπτικού και κινηματογραφικού υλικού για το National Geographic το οποίο περιλαμβάνει μια σειρά καταχωρήσεων στο ιστορικό περιοδικό, την διαδικτυακή προβολή δύο αναλυτικών αφιερωμάτων στην αυθεντική Κρήτη μέσα από την διαδικτυακή πλατφόρμα και τα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης του @natgeo καθώς και την τηλεοπτική προβολή σε Γαλλία, Γερμανία, Ιταλία και Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο. Το έργο αυτό δεν θα μπορούσε να είχε ολοκληρωθεί χωρίς την καθοριστική βοήθεια της Τετραγκον, του Κ. Αλεξάνδρου Τζορτζακακη και ασφαλώς του editor του National Geographic Richard Philips. Did you know that snow cover in the mountains of Greece has more than halved in 40 years? RGS grant recipient Konstantis Alexopoulos led an international research team using satellite imagery, climate data, terrain maps, and AI to better understand how rising temperatures are reshaping Greece’s mountain environments. Their findings show that: ❄️ Snow cover has declined by 58% over the past four decades 📅 The decline has accelerated since 2000 🌡️ Rising temperatures are the main driver Mountain snow functions as a natural reservoir, providing vital water during the dry summer months. Its decline could have serious implications for agriculture, ecosystems, and communities across the region. High in the Pindus mountains, winter speaks its own language. Wind, snow and silence shape the landscape of Dragonlake of Tymfi. Together with the team of @mountainobservatory , we joined a winter expedition to help deploy scientific instruments in one of Greece’s most remote alpine environments.
