~ Artist and educator Becky Warnock ( @bxwarnock ) led a very fun workshop for service users at Snaresbrook Arts Project ( @snaresbrookartsproject ) last week featuring movement, mark-making, photography and self portraiture. Becky’s work is collaborative and research-based, often including participatory workshops that use photography and other mediums to initiate dialogue. Working across film, performance and photography her practice is developed through relationship-building and meaningful engagement. This building of relationships informs both the process and the form the work takes. With a background in community engagement and support work, Becky’s practice is engaged with the ethics and structures of care and collective experience. Her work is often situated within mental health and trauma discourse, moving outwards from active grief using creative processes as tools to articulate complex and layered conversations. Becky currently lectures in Collaboration and Contemporary Visual Practices at London College of Communication. ~ Snaresbrook Arts Project (SAP), founded in 2008, is a day service supporting adults with learning difficulties through arts and crafts. The visiting artist workshops at S.A.P are facilitated and organised by @lbcuratorial . ~ #beckywarnock #snaresbrookartsproject #visitingartist #artistworkshop ~

Book Now: Join us on Thursday 28th August for Imagining Resistance, a workshop with artist and educator Becky Warnock. Part of our Art/Work Association programme, Imagining Resistance is a workshop that builds on a three-year research project led by Professor Kristi Langhoff (University of Sussex), Dr. Camille Warrington (University of Bedfordshire), and visual artist Becky Warnock. The project explores how young people across the UK, who have experienced sexual violence and exploitation, understand and relate to the concept of resistance. Resistance is a term loaded with complexity. While often linked to defiance against oppression, when applied to young people, it can carry negative connotations, framing them as resistant to support or engagement in ways that may limit their agency. In this workshop, Becky will screen a collaboratively produced film from the project, reflecting the experiences and perspectives of the young people involved. Together, you will discuss how this nuanced understanding of resistance can inform the practice of socially engaged artists and practitioners, and how resistance, often viewed through the lens of adversity, also offers a critical framework for art and social change. Participants will experiment with performance strategies, using resistance as a tool for creativity, empowerment, and social engagement within artistic practice. This event is free to attend and will be held at Auto Italia. To register, follow the link in our bio. @bxwarnock Image Credit: Imagining Resistance, 2024, Becky Warnock, video still.

This was so so so special 🩵 Thank you @bxwarnock @emma_bowkett @peckham24photo @marysadowling And all of you who came and shared and listened 🤍 Repost from @peckham24photo • A WELCOME TABLE With @bxwarnock ………………………………… “A Welcome Table” sits at the heart of Peckham 24’s 2025 programme as part of the curatorial theme, COME TOGETHER. Brought to the festival by artist, Becky Warnock, it is simultaneously an event, an engagement programme and an artwork. At the centre of Becky’s practice is a deep interest in listening; creating projects that platform people and stories that often go unheard, and developing spaces which prioritise conversation and dialogue. Thank you to everyone who joined the table last weekend: @tamiaftab @danitariel @jaskirtdhaliwalboora @tatimallah @marysadowling @tereza_cervenova @quetzalitaa @sabine_hess Thank you to Aisha for the photographs @_aabdirashed The Welcome Table continues into next weekend’s programme. This rehearsed reading is written and performed by: Biogal, Bri Leung, Dani Dinger, Danielle James and Ishmael Kirby with contributions from Jaye Hudson- and developed and directed by artist Ian Giles and playwright Louis Rembges. Big thanks to @bxwarnock for inviting me to speak at the Welcome Table this Saturday, catch me there with the brilliant @tatimallah from 3 - 4.30pm Whilst waiting for my train at New St, I've been reflecting on work I've made over the last 5 years and how local issues are a micrososm and reflection of global concerns. I've been questioning if we have more privilege in the UK, and the extent that helps when recovering from trauma and displacement. Security and safety is a basic human need, and when it's taken from you, does it matter where you are in the world? Or does that trauma fuck you up for good regardless? I'm sure we'll chat about more cheery things too 😁 like a revolution of love, what do you say @bxwarnock @tatimallah ?! Come down on Saturday and let's discuss, it's free, booking via the @peckham24photo website See you there!
