OBSERVE - Beyond The Museum: An Expedition Expedition | In partnership with QLD Museum [highlight reel]
The framework of a Museum establishes a clear distinction between ‘observer’ and ‘the observed’. Interrogating perspective, Observe is a performance artwork that questions this dynamic and gives agency to the object bodies that are positioned for the museum visitor to view one-sidedly. By recognising a similar dynamic in dance performance, we use the discipline in collaboration with visual art and fashion to invite the bodies of visitors and performers into a reciprocal dialogue of viewing.
————————————-
Finally get to share some footage from the QLD museum exhibition event on June 9th. Words cannot express how grateful I am for this opportunity and I honestly can’t believe this whole experience happened. Been really trying to push my capabilities and expand my artistic practice 🥺 Super blessed to have been able to achieve this life goal and super keen for more growth 🌱
Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported Beyond The Museum! Teared up seeing the whole museum packed 😭❤️

“The Crackles of Silence”
A performance art by Buddy Malbasias and Yori Papilaya, responding to Alessio Ceruti’s work.
ArtSociates at Lawangwangi
Dago Giri 99 Bandung
Friday, 15 May 2026, 4 pm
Buddy Malbasias and Yori Papilaya perform the experience of slowness and introspection through their interpretation of Alessio’s work duality. Questioning if contrasting values can move in tandem, through movements. Like Alessio’s body of work, this performance can be interpreted freely, felt deeply, no rush.
Buddy Malbasias is a Filipino-Australian (Bukidnon-born) independent artist-researcher, director, choreographer and performer, working at the intersection of contemporary performance, w_acking and interdisciplinary experimentation. Rooted in the Filipino diaspora, Buddy’s practice traverses cultural hybridity, queer identity and imaginative world-building, serving as conduits for interrogating and reimagining the ‘immigrant Filipino’ body.
Yori Papilaya is a queer Indonesian writer and performance artist based in Bandung whose practice centers on vulnerability, repetition, and the emotional traces left by the body. Blending performance, language, and ritual, Yori’s works explore questions of visibility, survival, and emotional labor; especially within queer and care-driven spaces.
Alessio Ceruti (born 1980 in Varese, Italy) combines image-making with material exploration. Working from underwater photographic and video references, he reprocesses images through layered interventions that blur the line between documentation and imagination. A diver and avid ocean enthusiast, Ceruti draws on his long engagement with the depths to produce a body of work that drifts across the scientific and the poetic: familiar, yet quietly strange. His oceanic creatures hover at the threshold of knowledge, slipping toward abstraction, shaped as much by perception as by the mystery from which they arise. Fragments from Below presents his recent video, installation and two dimensional works that interrogate perception, ecology, and the shifting relation between humans and the natural world, inviting us to move through what is seen, and what remains withheld.
