Photos from a very special concert last week with
@bsorchestra and
@martinjamesbartlett performing a programme I’d been looking forward to for quite a long time!
Opening with Arnold Bax’s Tintagel - a piece premiered by the then Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra in the early 20th Century, it was an absolute treat to premiere a new critical edition of Bax’s brilliant piece, written by fellow Bristol grad, George Owen!
Followed by a barnstorming performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1 with the legendary
@martinjamesbartlett - such a joy to work with and explore some of wonderful music with!
Then onto a personal desert island disc - Vaughan Williams’s Symphony No.5. Written in 1943, during some of the darkest days of WW2, it’s one of my favourite symphonies, for its gorgeous string writing, luscious harmonic language, and optimistic tone. On a personal note, I last conducted it in 2024, and used footage of that performance in my application for my current role with the BSO - so revisiting it with the BSO near the end of my time in Dorset felt like such a lovely full-circle moment.
Last week was one of my favourite and most special weeks in the job, exploring some exciting and personal repertoire, with some lovely friends in Dorset I’ve got to know over the past two years. The concert was live streamed and presented by the wonderful Martin Handley and is on the BSO’s Digital concert hall until 6th June!
Huge amount of love to everyone at
@bsorchestra ! And thanks to
@bant_etienne for some of the photos!
