220228: I rounded out the weekend with one more art-filled adventure, a visit to the final day of the Maquette: Sculpture Award at @mcclellandgallery . What a joy! . Sixty-one works by contemporary Australian artists, each a tiny universe of intention and imagination. I was especially thrilled to spot some wonderfully clever, wildly creative friends represented. There’s nothing quite like seeing fabulous people doing wonderful things. . 08.01.2026 ✨️ Because today is the only bearable day in a series of unbearable days, I got in my car, set my aircon up to "meat locker" and went to @mcclellandgallery to check out the Maquette Sculpture Award 2025. I voted for my favourite and if you know the kind of art I like then that should be obvious. I also tagged all artists who I could. The Deakin University Contemporary Small Sculpture Award, established in 2009, celebrates innovation and excellence in small-scale sculpture by artists across Australia. Organised by the Art Collection and Galleries Unit at Deakin University, Victoria, the award attracts over 700 entries each year, with around 42 works shortlisted for exhibition at the Deakin University Art Gallery. A rotating panel of judges selects a Winner and a Highly Commended, with the winning work acquired into the Deakin University Art Collection.

Opening this Saturday at Manyung Gallery Mount Eliza, ‘Connection to Place’, a new exhibition featuring Blue Mountains-based artists Jane Canfield and BK Ku. Jane’s signature style distills the Australian landscape into tonal, atmospheric works that feel both familiar and deeply serene. This marks her third major exhibition with Manyung. BK Ku, who will be joining us on the day, brings a unique perspective to his picturesque landscapes through his use of Hanji, a traditional Korean paper made from mulberry bark. His layered, textural works add a delicate yet powerful presence to the exhibition. We’re also featuring new sculptures by Brigit Heller and jewellery by Mary Odorcic in the gallery.
