Originally in Bali for the World Congress on Probation and Parole, but I was able to spend some quality time with my family (my son's sixth birthday) and finally at the revitalised @horizonglassworksbali which is pushing its way forward with the talented and thoughtful @jeremiahjamesjacobs . I got to make, and used Venetian style techniques to make glass with some recycled bottles from the tourist scene. This warmed my heart, as western tourism often appears to have an adverse impact on the Bali landscape. Indonesia is such a close neighbour to Australia so we will need to do more to build a bridge between our glass community and theirs. Indonesia is a country with a passionate people, hungry for cultural opportunities, and I think the Australian glass community will inevitably be part of that journey. I can't wait to see what they do next with their unique stories and approach to making.
Sailing with my kids on Lake Taupō, we marveled at the iconic Ngatoroirangi Māori rock carvings. 🛶 Towering 14 meters above the water, this contemporary masterpiece was created by carver Matahi Whakataka-Brightwell in 1976 after a vision of a tattooed face. Inspired by his grandmother's request to honor their ancestor Ngatoroirangi, the carvings have since become one of New Zealand’s most celebrated artworks. 🌊

This was an amazing time visiting our dear friends @madelineprowd and @lewis_b_glass@nzglassworks . Also made a new friend with great vibes and skills in @gautirya and met a photographer whose work absolutely floors me in @maraeparty . My highlight was being able to meet their amazing son. Having kids has been a huge part of my time over the last few years since I last spent time with them @jamfactoryau , and so it is really wonderful to be able to share our joy in this part of life with you guys. The New Zealand Glassworks is in great hands, let me know if there is ever anything I can do to help out. Thanks for letting me turn the pipe a bit ❤️

A huge shoutout and thanks to @ikatzoff and the rest of the amazing team @monmouthglassstudio@monmouthgallery , it was so nice to be welcomed in to visit the studio and see some of your clever tips and tricks to make the beautiful work you do. Especially thanks for sharing all of the big changes that have happened over the last few years, and the drive you shared with me to make a sustainable, ecologically informed studio practice in the heart of Auckland. Anyone would be lucky to create here with you, at your beautiful shop, legends.

Working across glassmaking and oil painting, Thomas Pearson’s practice engages themes of the human figure, loss, grief, and fragility, drawing on both personal experience and universal narratives informed by his research in the field of psychology.
His current body of work, Clepsammia, focuses on reconsidering hourglass form in figurative and hot-sculpting glassblowing processes. This unique, one off piece features glass microbeads and a subtle colour gradient.

Super proud of my amazing and talented wife Natalie who is the Executive Director of the International Corrections and Prisons Association seen here welcoming over 700 attendees from over 90 countries at their Annual Conference in Türkiye. I'll be doing some upcoming trips with her to New Zealand (hobbiton booked yay); Indonesia; and Morocco 🤞🤞🤞🤞 lets see what cool glass art stuff is around the corner
Making the hourglass forms, some snippets from start to finish and some special objects coming through. Thanks for all the support Edwina and Wil. Making anything in glass is a team effort. Making anything at the Canberra glassworks is always fun
