Every bike has a story; this is a good one.
Commissioned by DWP (@manualforspeed , @yonderjournal , etc), one of the creative forces behind the Rapha Continental in the early 2000’s, built by @pereiracycles (who also rode and built for the Continental project). ✨⚒️✨
It’s hard to put the impact that the project had on the bike industry into words. Long unsupported rides full of grit and inspiration, aiming to “redefine road cycling”. Some say it inspired modern gravel riding (and the comment section goes…). In reality, it was about camaraderie and documenting a shared experience of adventure from the saddle. 💕
Well, this bike was ridden by Daniel for years, then gifted to a young racer who took it overseas, clocking thousands of training miles on the frame. Eventually, as things do, it returned home to Portland and back into Tony’s hands.
As Tony moved the @breadwinnercycles shop a few years back, downsizing was necessary. The bike was for sale, and @cheftuned answered the call. Restored to near-period-correct condition, a beautiful tribute to the Continental ethos. 👌🏽

Before custom bikes, there were ski boots and bike fittings. Shift after shift, Tony realized he’s happiest when he can make it easier for people to do what they love. First it was getting their feet right. Now it’s building the bike that changes the way they move through the world.
In the Breadwinner Cycles shop, the sparks fly, the steel glows, and the music’s up while he’s chasing millimeters and perfect welds. These clogs have seen every frame that’s rolled out of that workshop—day in and day out, shielding him from hot sparks, softening the hours, picking up a layer of dust and history with every build.
The goal is simple: help someone gain a new sense of freedom. He’ll lock up the shop, kick the clogs off at the door, and leave the grit behind. The work—the built-to-spec frame of freedom he’s crafted for somebody else—that part goes home with him.
And the clogs? There’s no upgrading a pair that’s stood up to this kind of spark. Because when your job is helping people feel that first-kid-on-a-bike kind of joy again, you need clogs that are as ride-or-die as you are.

BREADWINNER CYCLES G-Road
未舗装路の走破を前提に設計されたBREADWINNER CYCLESのG-Roadは、優れた安定性と快適性、そして高い汎用性を兼ね備えた一台だ。バイクパッキングやオフロードツーリングといったシーンはもちろん、舗装路での走行も快適にこなす懐の深さを持っている。
このフレームをオーダーしたオーナーも、まさにそんなライドスタイルを想定しての選択。休日には近隣の山々へ、時には輪行で遠くのフィールドへと足を延ばし、グラベルやトレイルなど、緑の中を抜けるオフロードライドを存分に楽しんでいる。

Designed with off-road riding in mind, the BREADWINNER CYCLES G-Road is a bike that combines excellent stability and comfort with high versatility. It possesses the depth to handle bike packing and off-road touring scenarios with ease, while also providing a comfortable ride on paved roads.
The owner who ordered this frame chose it precisely for that kind of riding style. On holidays, they head to nearby mountains, sometimes even taking the train with their bike to distant fields, fully enjoying off-road rides through gravel, trails, and green spaces.
While the G-Road appears simple at first glance, its most striking feature is the segmented fork in the IGLEHEART style, inherited from Chris Igleheart. Originally crafted by the legendary builder Chris Igleheart himself, these forks are now made by BREADWINNER CYCLES builder Tony Pereira.
Leveraging the steel fork's inherent stiffness, the deliberate use of a standard-size head tube creates a classic aesthetic. Meanwhile, incorporating a sloping top tube ensures the bike handles dirt rides with ease, resulting in a modern gravel bike.

とはいえ対応するタイヤサイズは28〜40mmと幅広く、舗装路に限らず未舗装路まで視野に入れた懐の深さを持つ一台だ。タイヤ選びひとつで、さまざまな道を速く、そして快適に走り続けることができる。
この自転車のオーナーは、グラベルバイクで野山を駆け回り、トラックバイクで片道12kmほどの距離を通勤するなど、自転車が日常に深く根付いたライフスタイルを送っている。
そんな彼が「ロードバイクに乗ったら、もっと速く、もっと遠くまで行けるのでは?」と興味を持ち、知人のロードバイクを借りて一緒に走りに出かけたことが、このオーダーのきっかけとなった。
納車以降、彼は新しい自転車の楽しみを見つけ、定期的にライドへ出かけている。行き先は山間部が多く、メインは舗装路ではあるものの荒れた路面やコンディションの悪い区間もしばしば。
そんなフィールドにおいて、このA-Roadはまさに最適解。現在は700×32cのタイヤを装着し、快適かつ安定した走りでルートを走破しているが、最近では「もう少し太めのタイヤで、グラベルにも挑戦してみたい」と。

BREADWINNER CYCLES A-Road
Compared to B-Road, A-Road excels at handling paved roads.
That said, it accommodates a wide range of tire sizes from 28 to 40mm, making it a versatile machine designed not just for paved roads but also with unpaved terrain in mind. Simply by choosing different tires, you can ride fast and comfortably on a variety of surfaces.
The owner of this bike leads a lifestyle deeply rooted in cycling: riding a gravel bike through fields and mountains, commuting about 12km each way on a track bike.
It was this owner's curiosity—“If I rode a road bike, could I go faster and farther?”—that sparked this build. Borrowing a friend's road bike and going for a ride together was the catalyst.
About a year passed since that experience. It felt strangely poignant that the day of the shake-down test fell almost exactly on the anniversary of that initial ride.
Since then, the owner has discovered new joys with the bike and regularly heads out for rides. Destinations are often mountainous areas, primarily on paved roads, though rough surfaces and sections with poor conditions are not uncommon.
In such terrain, this A-Road is the perfect solution. Currently fitted with 700×32c tires, it conquers routes with comfortable and stable handling. Recently, the owner mentioned, “I'd like to try gravel riding with slightly wider tires.”

In the spring our friend @tschau_the_first asked us to build him a new version of the multiple award winning Roaring 29er that put @pereiracycles on the map in 2007. Timing was right to take the time to apply new skills, techniques, tools, and materials to this modern classic. There is a special feeling to riding a bicycle like this. Inspired by a 1920s Elgin balloon tire cruiser, it looks to the past, but is planted in the present with modern drivetrain, dropper post, and disc brakes. It turns heads and draws comments from other riders and reminds us of all the joy that bicycles have brought to so many riders since their invention only 150ish years ago.
