Double Negative Chairs for @turpentine_projects
In 2020 I made an 11 hour journey out to the Nevada desert to see Michael Heizer’s 1969 Land Artwork Double Negative, a 1,500 ft score in the earth.
I’ve spent a lot of time considering Double Negative over the past few years. There’s an implication of positive space between the two voids that exists on a scale few other artists have matched, and the experience of walking into such a monumental work is striking.
The chairs transpose the concepts Heizer engaged with to a personal scale: a suggestion of conversation, and mirrored, asymmetrically cut front faces alluding to the forms of the cuts on the Nevada mesa.
I started this project with a napkin sketch 8 months ago. If you ever get the chance to visit the artwork, it won’t disappoint.

Packaging design for @turpentine_projects
Every time I’ve purchased an artwork or print I’m always interested in the packaging — Fine Art requires a specific selection of packing materials and care in transportation to not damage the work.
The packaging for Turpentine carries these references over — blending the relationship between reference and product.

Land Art has been a fascination of mine for the last few years.
In the 1960s, artists primarily working in New York City looked to the open expanses of the American Southwest to create artwork at staggering scales, using natural materials as both a medium and a focus of their work.
Connecting all these works is a reverence for our relation to the natural world, physical space, and each other.
Sense of Place is a print series featuring some of the most influential works associated with the land art movement from American and International artists between 1968—1994.
