Artist Bio °•☆
Bia Richard (they/them) is a non-binary disabled artist based in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal), their work in VJing grows out of a background in sewing and clothing design: ongoing experimentation with texture, colour, and movement through textiles and painting transferred beautifully to the creation of video textures for music and sound. Largely self-taught and supported by mentors (using accessible tools such as DaVinci resolve and their smartphone), they discovered a passion for live video projections through online learning as well as knowledge-sharing and community practice. Bia is a fixture in the local arts and music scene in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, VJing for DIY venue "le garage" and making video projections for artists such as Brain Rot, Mischa Gods and Super Pyramid. They have also worked with multidisciplinary artist Fili Gibbons, premiering the work 'Pleasure Spaces' at Eastern Bloc / Sight + Sound Festival on March 28, 2025.
Bia creates projections using living, organic materials and everyday gestures, transforming the familiar into pigmented matter in motion. By rediscovering Montréal through shifting perspectives, their visuals invite viewers to see the ordinary as vibrant and alive. Rooted in care and accessibility, Bia’s practice aims to bring people together through social and restorative art, offering multiple languages for expression and collective experience.
