Une sorte d’invasion montréalaise du club de jazz The Yardbird Suite à Edmonton a eu lieu il y a quelques mois lorsque le saxophoniste ténor @johnsweenie et ses compatriotes montréalais ( @jeanmichelpilc au piano, @remijeanleblanc à la basse et @drumsome à la batterie) ont enregistré Mysticism for Intellectuals, un album de jazz contemporain brillant et intelligent, teinté d’un groove puissant qui efface l’apathie.

Le saxophoniste albertain @johnsweenie vient de sortir un album que je considère déjà faire partie des meilleures sorties jazz 2026. Avec Mysticism for Intellectuals, celui qui est basé à Montréal depuis plusieurs années pour étudier à McGill (on souhaite qu’il s’installe durablement après!), a convoqué quelques amis de la ville ( @drumsome , @remijeanleblanc et @jeanmichelpilc ) pour créer un aventure palpitante dans le groove et l’impro raffinée, au son de pulsations puissantes en alternance avec des atmosphères délicates et foisonnantes de détails subtils. J’ai parlé avec l’artiste de l’album et de sa propre histoire, car on le connaît encore peu.
