My second #QuiltConReject is for the @windhamfabrics Challenge. This was a last minute decision when @ruthlesslyhandmade gave me her leftovers. I am really proud of this quilt for several reasons; 1) I have never attempted applique this way before 😂 nothing like a show entry to try something for the first time 2) I designed this entirely myself using Procreate and 3) I had a completely different vision at the start and it was trash. Instead of giving up and letting perfectionism win, I stopped and kept trying. In the words of my friend Celia, I suffered for the art 😂 Read my artist statement below 🌸
This quilt is my love letter to Asheville—quirky, soulful, and blooming with North Carolina wildflowers. Minimal appliqué and detailed traditional quilting mirror the city’s blend of modern artistry and deep Appalachian roots. The mandala, inspired by Chai Pani (my favorite Asheville bite!), anchors the design with bold, joyful energy.
This quilt would be nothing without the incredible FMQ done by @fourthhousequilts 🌻 Kahlee delivered the floral mandala visions of my dream to finish this piece and make the appliqué pop. I am in awe of her work and I am so lucky to have collaborated with her on this piece 🪷
P.s shoutout to @stayclosetay for this dope backdrop which you can see on campus at Rice University!
