šŸ‘‹ Welcome! I’m Erin, the quilter and pattern designer behind The Blanket Statement Quilt Co. I’m based in Winnipeg, Canada, where the wild beauty of the outdoors inspires much of my work. My quilting story began when I made my very first quilt at age four with the help of my mom. And I basically haven’t stopped creating since.Ā  In 2017, I launched TBS with one goal: to design modern quilt patterns with a touch of tradition that are both beautiful and approachable.Ā  As someone who once felt like an outsider in the quilting world (and still sometimes do!), I know how intimidating it can seem at the start. That’s why I create patterns that help you feel empowered, inspired, and capable, no matter your skill level. Over the years, I’ve published dozens of patterns that are available as instant-download PDFs or as printed patterns on my website, and stocked in quilt shops around the world.Ā  While quilts are the heart of what I do, my quilted bag patterns are among my most popular designs. And there are always more on the way (yes, a new bag pattern is coming soon!). 🧵 If you’re new here, I’d love to get to know you! Introduce yourself and tell me what you’re working on! Or if you’re just here for inspiration, that’s wonderful too.Ā  Either way, I’m so glad you’re here, and I can’t wait to cheer you on as you create quilts you truly love. __ #theblanketstatement #blanketstatementpatterns #modernquilter #canadianquilter #beginnerquilter

PROGRESS REPORT! When @rubystarsociety sent me this yet-to-be-released Persimmon fabric by @iamrashidacolemanhale , I dropped everything and started sewing a new quilt! Now that Ive finished this River Heights quilt top, it’s true love! As someone who doesn’t typically sew with prints, I just might be a convert! HELP! Now I need suggestions on how to quilt this beauty!! ˖᯽ ݁˖ The River Height Quilt is not only FQ friendly, but it also works beautifully with directional prints! Pattern officially releases MAY 20th!! __ #theblanketstatement #blanketstatementpatterns #rubystarsociety #fatquarters

Here’s a quick tutorial on how I baste my quilts: 1. After pressing the quilt top and backing fabric, I lay the backing fabric right side down and tape around the perimeter so it’s smooth. 2. Lay down the batting and give it a quick smooth-out. 3. Since I’m spray basting, I always open a window! 4. I’m using @odif.diy 505, and I lightly spray in sweeping strokes across the width of the batting, in about 8ā€ sections. (I always spray the batting, not the fabric!) I smooth it out as I go. 5. Then I lay the quilt top right side up and smooth it out. I double check that it’s straight and centred, this is especially important since the backing fabric a directional print! 6. Then I just repeat the steps, spraying in small sections, starting from the centre and working toward the edges. 7. BONUS STEP - I’ll wse a hot, dry iron to give the quilt sandwich a quick press to really set the basting spray. 8. I remove the tape and any excess batting/backing fabric and then test for coziness! Remember, these are just the steps that work for me. You may have your own way and that’s ok… do what works for you! ✿ River Heights Quilt Pattern COMING SOON! ✿ ‿‿‿‿ #theblanketstatement #blanketstatementpatterns #modernquilter #beginnerquilter #learntoquilt

Freshly pressed and ready to be quilted! Yes, this is yet another River Heights sample getting ready for the pattern release… and dare I say my favourite? šŸ¤” Hmmm time will tell! As I put the finishing touches on the pattern, let me give you the highlights: 🧵 FQ Friendly (you can make it with background fabric like this one, or entirely out of FQs… wait until you see that one!!!) 🧵 Perfect for directional prints! 🧵 6 sizes and 3 unique variations (including 2-colour!) Ok, now I’ve got to get back to work and baste this giant because I’ve got some curvy quilting in store (plus a little tutorial on how I do it!) __ #riverheightsquilt #theblanketstatement #blanketstatementpatterns

When @rubystarsociety sends you some yet-to-be-released fabric, you drop everything and start sewing a new quilt… right?! Yeah. Me too! Persimmon by @iamrashidacolemanhale (shipping in June, I believe) is absolutely adorable and the colours are top notch! I’m working on the blocks for my next quilt pattern, River Heights, releasing in May! This pattern is not only FQ friendly, but it also works beautifully with directional prints! And the oversized blocks really let the fabric shine. Beginner friendly, plus it includes 6 sizes and 3 unique variations! Eek! I can hardly wait! __ #riverheightsquilt #blanketstatementpatterns #rubystarsociety #janomecanada #olfa

When your 16 year old daughter thinks that something you make is cool and wants one… you immediately have to make it because this moment might pass!! I got this canvas from @blackbirdfabrics and I was planning on making myself something, but she saw it, fell in love and requested a Crescentwood Bag! It’s lined with @rubystarsociety fabric and isn’t it just the cutest!? I’m in love. And also very jealous it’s not mine! gather round for story time a couple years ago i picked up EPP as a ā€œhobbyā€ā€Østill quilting, but different from my day to day work
i loved it while i was in it
but when the project was done, the spark kind of stopped there too (you can swipe to see it if you want!) fast forward to this year
on a total whim i tried needle turn appliqué
and wow…something about it just clicked for me i might be in love will it become a regular part of my work
honestly probably not
but as a creative side path that feels playful and new
it has been everything and apparently i was so in it that i documented almost none of it
which feels very telling for me
and also a little sad in hindsight but
i made a thing! this quilt is called Where is the Whimsy? i’ve been asking myself that question over and over and instead of waiting to stumble across it
i decided to make it this piece is about play
about letting colour and movement lead
about following curiosity without overthinking it a reminder that joy isn’t always something you find
sometimes it’s something you create __ #theblanketstatement #needleturnappliquĆ© #handquilting #epp

Originally used as a practical way to use up scraps and make the most of every fabric, string blocks are a long-time quilting favorite. Instead of precise shapes, narrow strips are sewn together to build the design as you go, making them a flexible quilt block option. OLFA Expert, Erin (@theblanketstatement ) shows how easy it can be. Comment "string" to get the directions sent to your DM's.
