WOVEN THREADS VII: CRAFTED - CRAFTED TALKS: CRAFTED X THE MAKERS CAMP Date: Saturday, 11th April 2026 Time: 2:50 PM - 3:30 PM Venue: 274A Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island (Magister) This session focuses on knowledge exchange, education, and how making is taught, shared, and sustained across different contexts. It examines how platforms like Makers Camp support new ways of learning, collaboration, and skills development within fashion. Meet the Speakers Ugonna-Ora Owoh (Journalist and Editor) Moderator A writer examining contemporary African culture across fashion, art, design, and media, with work published across leading global platforms. Berni Yates (Knowledge Exchange Lead, Central Saint Martins) Works across fashion education, focusing on access, inclusion, and building systems that support emerging talent and future-facing learning. Peter Acha (Creative Director, Pettre Taylor) Founder of Pettre Taylor, a Nigerian fashion brand rooted in craftsmanship, storytelling, and sustainable production, blending traditional techniques with contemporary design.

For two weeks, MA Fashion first year students at Central Saint Martins (@mafcsm ), led by Knowledge Exchange Lead @berniyates (photographed), have been in residence at @masonfifth Westbourne Park with their MAKERS CAMP: The West Africa Project - collaborating, learning how to reuse fabrics, sharing skills and hosting their own events. Most recently, they’ve transformed our retail space into a vibrant hub celebrating creativity and collaboration. Inside, you’ll find everything from Heritage Craft slogan T-shirts and jewellery to fashion textiles and hand-made muses from recycled fabrics created by students during the Camp — alongside a selection of beautiful pieces on sale from visiting West African designers. ⁠ Their pop-up is running until 16 March, and they will be exhibiting their final works in our conservatory building on 14 March from 12–6pm so stop by!

Im all about visual annotation, which is why I should be better at insta ! 😅 I dont talk much about work. Over the years, I've been so lucky to do something I ❤️. Work that really "matters" & is life changing ! Im referring to the work I have done over the years in WP [ widening participation ] supporting people from marginalised communities to access and progress into universities more broadly the creative sector through Further Education [which im a great believer in] apprenticeships, internships, social enterprises work etc.. Two years ago, I took on a new role leading on Knowledge Exchange for Fashion @CSM - [more broadly the M School] Where I believed I could broaden my scope of "game changing" possibilities. It hasnt been easy - [funding] But I believe we are "planting strong sustainable seeds" and growing some amazing initiatives! I wanted to do SHOUT OUT for one of these projects: "THE WOOL><EXCAHNGE" in partnership with @britishwool Since meeting with BW a couple of years ago, I quickly realised the potential to join forces with them to support our UK sheep farmers ! " Why are we not using more British Wool in apparel ?" Well, we all know why £££ cheaper imports, etc, coupled with no infrastructures to prepare the fleecees, to create yarns, fibres, materials, etc Hence, WOOL><EXCHANGE was born ! Working with British Wool, CSM, UAL, Education [our future designers & makers] farmers, manufacturers, scourers, designers small medium & large established brands,knitters, Weavers, artisans, buyers, consumers, policy makers ...... With the success of WOOL><EXCHANGE ONE, we are now planning the 2nd iteration- BIGGER & BETTER ! 27th - 28th November! Posting images from my FABULOUS two days with @britishwool , where I learned so much more about the industry, its ups and downs ! Ways which we can support our sheep farmers !
