Recently, I was commissioned as a series director for the BBC’s Arts in Motion. Here are some stills from one of the films, featuring Karl Ove Knausgård. An enormous privilege to make a film about one of the greatest living authors. I’m deeply grateful for Karl’s openness in speaking about his process, his guilt, shame, and the way he sees and inhabits the world. Today marks World Mental Health Day — and the release of The Road of Excess. Our feature documentary follows our good friend Mat Pritchard as he pushes himself through another world of physical pain, rowing across the Atlantic Ocean to escape — and ultimately confront — his inner turmoil and battles with addiction. Over the coming weeks, the film will be screened in cinemas across the country, and most importantly, in youth centres across Wales, where Mat will meet with young people to open up conversations about mental health and resilience. A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this film to life — but most of all to Mat, for his honesty, courage, and willingness to share his vulnerability so that others might find strength in their own struggles. It was an honour being commissioned to make this campaign film for Marie Curie. The experience of meeting these incredible people willing to open up and discuss grief with such emotional intelligence has taught me so much. The entire crew who gave up their time for this charity also blew my mind. A truly cathartic and warming experience from start to finish. A few weeks ago we were fortunate to road trip to @mountainfilm , I cannot imagine a more beautiful festival. The Mountain Film team were the most welcoming of hosts @lucy.lerner @suzanberaza etc.… Telluride is the perfect setting. The town, the people, the bars, the breathless hikes, the waterfalls, the wildlife and scenery all adding to the unforgettable experience. We watched numerous incredible films about people making a huge difference. It was an honour to have ours @theoradofexcess considered along side them. Our feature documentary, The Road Of Excess, continues its festival run in Manchester this Friday. The film parallels the rags to riches, riches to ruin of Dirty Sanchez’s Matt Pritchard with an arduous journey rowing across the Atlantic. The screening is at 18:30, Odeon Great Northern. WINNER Dezeen Architecture Video of the Year!! @dezeenawards_ #dezeenawards Over 5400 entries from 90 countries and ‘We Are Not Bad Kids’ won. Aimed at supporting my brilliant wife and her colleagues urging government to adopt their guidance for emergency homeless youth housing. This is issue is become increasingly more poignant with cost of living crisis The film was shot on a shoe string with the incredible support of @franklindop Judges comments: "This sobering video addresses the fundamental necessities of architecture to humanity, and the central role that it plays in modern society. To many, architecture as a practice is considered exclusive – even elitist – yet this video is a reminder of its universal need, and the impact it can have when properly harnessed. The video also acts as a tool for discovery, and we hope starts a conversation around the need for architectural and design thinking at every level of society."
