Meet Ben Wicks, director of the FF Slate Film THE IMPENDING WHITE LIGHT, with his #ReelOpinion.
Since 2013, Ben has written and/or directed over 40 projects,, including pilots, concepts, short films and music videos. Drawing influence from the likes of David Fincher, Damien Chazelle & Mike Leigh, Ben is passionate in finding interesting, compelling and perhaps more importantly, unique ways in telling stories that can draw an emotional response from audiences. His films have gone on to enter international film festivals, winning awards in the UK, France, Italy and America.
The poster for my new short film, The Impending White Light, has now been released! This film was a labour of love for a long time and I am very excited to see it venture off onto its festival run!
This film was made by a group of very special people of whom I am lucky enough to also call friends and also marks the debut project of my new company @fieldendfilms

Lost Beginnings marked our second collaboration together (we’ve since gone on to make another project, The Impending White Light) and every time I’m reminded how much I love our prep time together - diving into references, shot lists, lens chats (plus the occasional debate about our favourite cheese 🧀)
From sketching out frames on Artemis to seeing final shots come to life, it’s a joy bringing these visions to life with @lauragallopdop .

Ever seen a film about IVF?
Chances are, unless you saw "JOY" on Netflix last year... probably not.
Despite 1 in 6 people experiencing infertility, this deeply personal and often heart-wrenching journey is rarely seen on screen.
Perhaps it’s because the topic still carries stigma, shame? But that’s exactly why films like this are so important.
🎬 "Lost Beginnings", a powerful new short film by Writer & Director Ben Wicks and the brilliant team at Field End Films, does something rare and courageous: it tells the story of infertility with honesty, empathy, and stunning creativity.
It premiered this evening!
This is not just a film - it’s a conversation starter. Its purpose is to raise awareness, encourage open dialogue, and shed light on the profound mental health and relationship challenges that infertility can bring.
We are incredibly proud to support this important work and applaud our colleagues at @fertilitynetworkuk for their contributions to this project too.
