BEAUCOUP HOODOO FEST IS A PORTAL. ___ When we walked to Congo Square through the streets of TREME, old ancient streets that knew the footsteps of those who came before us, I was present. Present to the portal, the vortex, that was being entered the river that we were forming. ___ When we got to Congo Square, I knew something was different. The vibes of the entire festival was different. Mama Koko @comptonauthor was sitting there, having been handed the Egungun stick by Baba Luther, a living legend and co-founder of Congo Square Drum Society and his daughter, my high school, school mate @ireaje . ___ We walked over to that sacred tree…a vibrating vortex, humming with the somatic vibrations of generations of Egun. They were appeased by sister Iya @berettascottking . ___ Mama Koko led us in veneration. We alchemized our pain, grief and sorrow for our dead into kinetic energy. We called out the name of our deceased sister friend… Dana Jackson Ibae! Dana Jackson Ibae! Dana Jackson Ibae! You will never, ever be forgotten. ___ Spirit broke free, came down, blessed us. From the tips of our fingers to the soles on our feet. And for all of that we give thanks. Maferefun Gbo Gbo Orisa. Maferefun Egun. Light, peace and progress to guides and protections of all the mediums that were present. ___ BEAUCOUP HOODOO FEST: A Memory New Orleans, LA | Congo Square Sunday, March 23rd, 2025 🎥: @antmrivera Poetry: @ehimeora

“Wild women they walk with buffalo.” — @sunnipatterson ___ I AM VERKLEMPT. BEAUCOUP HOODOO FEST WAS BEYOND BEYOND. Undoubtedly, without a shadow a doubt, THIS WAS OUR BEST ATRS FÊTE YET! So much so that Egun AND Sango, Kawo Kabiosile ⚡️🔥 came down in Congo Square. ___ We venerated our friend. Dana Jackson Ibae. Dana Jackson Ibae. Dana Jackson Ibae. And we did it right. We danced in the street. Gathered with our elders. We laughed. We cried. We shouted. We rocked. We held space. We held each other. We held ourselves. We believed. ___ If I didn’t know before this weekend that Egun and Orisa are real. That a portal, a vortex is vibrating, reverberating in this community that I have built, that we are building together…Baby let me tell you, as I speak in my strongest of New Orleans dialects, I KNOW ON TODAY. ___ If you didn’t make it this year, you missed out on truly something special. Something sweet. Sweetest thing I’ve ever know. But guess what y’all? Next year’s FEST is going to be EVEN BETTER! SPECTACULAR even. OUT OF THIS WORLD. Because I AM INSPIRED. I have received the downloads and I got the juice. HOLD YOUR SPOT NOW for 2026! ___ BEAUCOUP HOODOO FEST: AN ATRS FÊTE — The Only ATRS FÊTE of its Kind! March 19th — March 22nd, 2026 New Orleans, LA HOLD YOUR SPOT TODAY! 🎥: @antmrivera 👸🏿: @kandake PS: All my thank yous and acknowledgements are loading in T minus…

It finally dawned on me… BEAUCOUP HOODOO is a part of the continuum of the Black imaginary and possibility project. Oh the magic and alchemy of it all. ___ BEAUCOUP HOODOO FEST: The Only ATRS FÊTE of its Kind. A gathering of spiritual elders, scholars, healers, practitioners, priests and ATRS newbies together in New Orleans to reclaim the sacred traditions and technologies of our ancestors for four days of deep ancestor veneration. ___ We did it in 2022. We did it in 2023. We’re doing it again Spring Equinox 2025 in the heart of the Treme. ___ Oh and I don’t think that she needs an introduction—and without shadow of a doubt, she has me BALLING anytime opens that mouth of her and utters and sound — special thanks to the blessings rained down by my brilliant alchemist of a sis @sunnipatterson . ✨: @apshantology 🎥: @alexkwoncolby 🎶: @oludareshines #beaucouphoodoo #beaucouphoodoofest

If you’re wondering where in the world is Iyalode Yeyefini? On her land in North Carolina, worshipping Orisa, growing herbs, feeding the people and crowning heads. ___ This past weekend while in North Carolina celebrating my son’s graduation from A&T — shout out to the Aggie Pride Nation from a PROUD Bison — I had the esteemed opportunity to visit with Iyalode @yeyefini_ , elder and author of the ATRS BOOK CLUB official BOOK OF THE MONTH — THE LIVING SHRINE. ___ On all accounts, this is one of the BEST memoirs from an Orisa elder that you will ever read. She starts the book off coming in HOT. Folks coming into the Tradition now think everything is so cute and so performative and so transactional. What many people do NOT know, is the trials and tribulations that our elders, especially the WOMEN, had to go through to embrace, practice these traditions and pass them on. So as long as there is breath in my body, I will give our elders their flowers while they are able to smell them. Growing up around all of my grandparents and my great-grandparents and a bunch of other old folks is one of the reasons why I actually place a HIGH VALUE on spending time with them. I recognize the wisdom in being around folks who have experienced more life than me…most especially if they have Ocha and Asè. These old witches ain’t NOTHING to play with, here? That’s why I’m often so confused when people take them for granted or to play with. But I digress. ___ Get the book. Join the ATRS BOOK CLUB. Follow Iyalode Yeyefini.

ATRS 101: Elderhood is not based on age. Contrary to popular belief, hierarchy exists in African Traditional Religions. Know your place, respectfully. ___ If someone grows up in the Religion and initiates as a child. And you come into the Tradition much later in life as a grown up — even if you are older in natal age, that person is your elder. If a priest made Ocha only a year before you — they are your elder. Folks get confused. If a 75 year old woman decides to initiate and a 50 year old made Ocha before them, that 50 year old is their elder. ___ Respect to the law means respecting your own head by respecting the elders before you. ___ Now just because people have a lot years doesn’t mean they are wise — I have met my fair share of childish acting people with PLENTY of years of Ocha (and/or more years than me). But that’s another conversation. This one is about respecting tradition. And understanding that hierarchies exist in African Traditional Religions. #atrs101

“You can’t have a short memory and be Black. You’ll open yourself up for attack. You’ve got to have a long memory cause you’re singing a long song.” — Dr. Koko Zauditu-Selassie, In Our Mothers Gardens Directed and Executive Produced by: Shantrelle P. Lewis Produced by: @jasaunsvision Distributed by: @arraynow ___ So many lessons have been learned from Mama Koko’s wisdom (@comptonauthor ) She’s lived many many many lives with a whole bunch more to live. ___ Five years ago, my film IN OUR MOTHERS’ GARDENS made its world premier on NETFLIX thanks to the support of ARRAY and @ava . The film reached the homes of millions of people globally. And has touched more lives than I will ever know. As I reflect on all that has come from that piece of artistic and spiritual work, I thank Olofi and honor my Ori and the Asé that lives in my head. And the good spirits and protections that walk with me for ensuring that this work continues to do what it is supposed to do in the world. Maferefun Sango. KAWO KABIOSILE. ___ Sending love to everyone involved who helped to bring this project to life…I’m looking forward to celebrating this achievement in the months to come. Thank you all for coming along for the ride.

BEAUCOUP HOODOO x BRASIL v.3 Nov. 4th — 14th, 2026 Rio de Janeiro + Salvador da Bahia ___ Following in the footsteps of my godmother, Mama Oseye Mchawi who has been traveling back and forth and bringing groups of people, especially Lucumi practitioners to Brasil for the past 50 years, I’m excited to curate my 3rd Group Excursion to the Land of the Blacks! For the third year in a row, we will experience the magic, power and beauty of Afro-Brasilian spirituality, history and culture. ___ When I first touched down in Brasil in 2004, I didn’t know at the time, but that experience would begin my formal practice in ATRS and Lucumi specifically and ultimately shape the trajectory of my life. It was mind blowing. Paradigm shifting. Life altering. And FUN! ___ Go to our website to apply. Limited spots available and for safety reasons all applications won’t be approved.
