THIS is the moment that made me understand my calling to be a Director. This is Mia, she’s the owner of @ichigotokyocrepes in Minneapolis. In the midst of her interview, she wasn’t feeling her most confident, so we took a short break and we had a little chat. That interaction was captured and it was sent to me a little later and it made my heart melt. Her smile and energy once we talked changed my entire perspective on why being encouraging as a Director is so important. I wanted Mia to feel her best, and maybe somehow I brought that out of her that day. After we talked, she really became her most passionate self on camera and we danced all the way to wrap. Living your dreams is a choice. I’ve reflected on my choices time and time again since 2020. I have a masters degree in Education, and a Bachelors in Computer Science…how did I end up making films? A degree is a piece of paper. It does not quantify skill or purpose, but the experiences I’ve had in pursuit of those degrees made me a perfect Director of Photography, Business Owner, and all around go getter. Don’t let your experiences hold you back from being whatever you want in this world. Be confident, and continue the process.
