Here's something I don't think I've ever articulated to myself before about calligraphy: It feels nice! My deepest childhood memories are not so much of form as they are of feeling. There are other aspects that have me long-term cerebrally engaged, and those tend to dominate the foreground, but that *feeling*, the touch, goosebump response ... the way it breathes, holds and releases, bends and shivers, scratches and sighs - I think that's what has me intoxicated and addicted.
