I just love that when you add black to yellow you get khaki. My watercolour palette is a painting! Last weekend I invigilated Laura’s porcelain. Love the colours with spring flowers. @lmceramic @ayreshousestudios #ayreshousestudios #artweeks

Mediterranean Poetry - oils on panel, 50cmx50cm. This painting has been built up using many layers of oil glazes. This adds depth and luminosity. #seaabstract #mediterraneanpainting #turquoise #waterpainting #oilglazes

I rescued this heavy oak chair from the rain in an antique junkyard. 3 months of winter rain wlll destroy any chair, but the craftsmanship - oh my - it must have been a beauty in its day. I gave it lick of gesso to show it up, and a vase of lilies. I paid £3 for it and it will model for me for the next painting. My work addresses repair and mending as one of the themes. Does anyone know what the name of this style of chair is. #rescuedchair #antiquechair #chairintherain #chairpainting oilpainting.

We had a great PV last night. I took lots of photos but of other artists with their painting on their own cameras, so you could head over to @oxfordartsociety to see some more pics. Thank you to Oxford Art Society for curating the exhibition so beautifully. My chair was flanked by two lovely sculptures by Martin Cash. In the second image you can see my little one, Winter Sunshine. The exhibition is at Kendrew Barn, St Johns College., on the Park and Ride 300 route, from Redbridge, you get off the bus near Broad Street and walk down towards St Giles and the gallery is opposite the Martyrs Monument. open daily 12-5pm #chairpainting #oxfordartsocietymembersexhibition #oilpainting #upholstery #stitchedcanvas

I am delighted and honoured that my large painting ‘The Chair’ has been accepted at the Members Exhibition at Oxford Art Society. The painting is 120cmx100cm and depicts an exquisitely designed chair, as well as some upholstery stitching on hessian. #paintingsofchairs #chair #artexhibition #oxfordartsociety #exhibitioninoxford

I’m thrilled that Winter Sunshine has been selected for the Oxford Art Society Members Exhibition. I felt that it really captured the light on a small vase with a couple of blooms on my studio table in the late afternoon sunshine. The exhibition is at Kendrew Barn, St John’s College, with the private view on Friday. Open daily until 11th April. And my large painting has also been accepted - (joy!) - see the next post. @oxfordartsociety #oxfordartsociety #exhibition

I’m kind of reluctant to cut this up into 6 little squares to fit the brief, but I’m going to anyway. This one started in a different way with mark-making and floating watercolour in puddles. I’ll keep it at this stage for my watercolour serendipity workshop tomorrow when we’re are doing grid-painting then I’ll tackle making 6 mini compositions sing. This is ‘art therapy’ while I’m girding up and doing studies for some large oil paintings which will reveal themselves in the fullness of time! #serendipityart #arttherapy #minimasterpiece #contemporarywatercolor #abstractwatercolour

I think that this gorgeous Michael Harvey Caribbean Turquoise is an all time favourite, but teamed up with Paynes Grey for depth and Quinacridone Gold for sparkle(both Winsor & Newton), it’s a winner for me. Scroll to my colour swatches to peek into my watercolour box. I really like those colours that are translucent and make cabbage edges when extra water is dropped in. My next set is going to be a totally different palette. #colourpalette #turquoiseandgold #gridpaintings #minimasterpieces #translucency

There are a couple of spaces available at my workshop on Grid Painting on Tuesday afternoon 10th March in East Hendred, Oxfordshire. It’s going to be a fun time trying out colour compositions and the unpredictability of watercolours. DM if you’d like to join us. #watercolour #abstractwatercolour #gridpainting #colourpalettes #turquoiseandgold

The next three minis from this grid painting. There is more of a graphic element here because I indulged my pattern-making urge! I’m loving the way the colour is working with the shades of turquoise and the pops of quinacridone gold. #gridpainting #minimasterpieces #quinacridonegold #turquoiseandgold #watercolourabstract

Resolving grid paintings is always a challenge - in a way it’s like treating the square with its compositional and conflicting colours/shapes/lines like a problem to be solved. Some squares will always be more successful than others, but at the same time it is playing with colour and taking risks in such a way that it can inform a piece of art using similar elements. #gridpainting #watercolour #turquoiseandgold #colourschemes #minimasterpiece
