May is Brain Tumour Awareness Month. To commemorate, we are resharing the recently launched DECRYPT-BABYBRAIN clinical trial. This first-of-its-kind pan-Canadian trial is looking to enhance treatment and quality of life for babies and young children with rare and aggressive brain cancers. BCCHR investigator Dr. Sylvia Cheng is one of the principal researchers working on the trial. “The goal is to create national harmonized treatments for young children with high-risk brain cancers that is tailored to a specific child's tumour with the aim to reduce late side effects of radiation if possible,” says Dr. Cheng. Chinese Canadian youth often face unique challenges to accessing mental health care, including cultural stigma, language barriers, and a lack of culturally appropriate resources. To better support youth mental health, researchers from the Doan Lab at BC Children's Hospital Research Institute developed MyHEARTSMAP-C, a culturally adapted psychosocial self-assessment tool available in English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
