In her 37 years in health care, Mary MacKillop, senior director of Patient Experience at BC Children’s and BC Women’s hospitals, has seen one truth hold steady: exceptional care is a team effort.   From clean spaces and fresh linens to food services, therapeutic supports, and clinical care - every person on campus plays a vital role in creating a compassionate experience for families. And at the heart of it all is doing our best that every family feels heard and included in their care. — Care Within Our Walls is a campaign that showcases the people behind the work we do at both BC Children’s and BC Women’s hospitals. #BCChildrensHospital #BCWomensHospital #BCWomens #BCChildrens #patientexperience #canadahealthcare #healthcare #CareWithinOurWalls

During National Nursing Week, we recognize the impact of nurses, and the difference they make in the lives of patients, families, and communities. At our hospital, registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses, licensed practical nurses and nurse practitioners support and transform care across many areas – from practice and research to education and leadership. For each role and each individual, we thank you for the incredible compassion, dedication and strength you bring into every shift, project and initiative. You make a difference in the lives of patients and families during their most vulnerable times. Join us in thanking nurses today. #NationalNursingWeek

In 2025, there was a 35 per cent increase in the number of patients treated @bcchildrens for injuries related to falls from windows and balconies compared to the previous year. Every spring and summer in BC, children die and suffer devastating injuries as the result of falls from windows and balconies. If you have children in your home, there are simple steps you can take to prevent these terrible accidents: - Talk to children about the dangers of playing near open windows and on balconies - Move furniture and planters away from windows and balconies; keep in mind children can often climb before they can walk - Install locks on windows that prevent them from opening more than 10 centimetres - Remember that screens keep bugs out, not kids in. Screens can easily be pushed out and are not enough to prevent a child from falling out a window.

🎵✨ In the midst of beeping medical equipment and difficult moments, music creates space for something deeply human: connection. Having spent 25 years as a music therapist at BC Children’s Hospital, Erin Delnea has seen firsthand how music can highlight the essence of a child, bringing children’s creativity and playfulness to the forefront. “I don't think you can work with children without experiencing hope and laughter and joy in your day,” says Erin. “And that's probably a big part of the reason that I've worked here for so long.” — Care Within Our Walls is a campaign that showcases the people behind the work we do at BC Children’s and BC Women’s hospitals.

Making toothbrushing part of your child’s everyday routine is a great way to prevent cavities. ☀️🌙Brush every day – in the morning and at night, and help children brush until they are about 8 years old. Tip: find ways to make it fun – smile, sing a song, or tell a story while you brush! To learn more, visit the link in our bio. #HealthySmilesStartEarly #bcchildrenshospital #dentalhealth #babyteeth

Dentists recommend using fluoride toothpaste to prevent cavities. Start brushing with fluoride toothpaste as soon as the very first tooth comes in! 🪥For babies and toddlers, just use a tiny smear—about the size of a grain of rice. 🦷From ages 3 and up, use a pea-sized amount.
