... is part of a broader study into how women who have experienced hair loss navigate physical, social and psychological spaces, that once excluded them. Rather than restoring what was lost, the project asks, “How might we portray the emergence from loss with resilience and beauty?”
Across cultures and histories, from Sita’s modesty to Samson’s strength, hair carries a legacy of sacred meaning. Hair is so often framed as a fundamental symbol of beauty, health and belonging.
Consequently, Farah’s hair loss inadvertently marked her as other, potentially making her feel she had fallen outside the accepted norms of femininity and what it means to be a woman.
This project is about reclaiming the spaces, redefining cultural norms and perceptions of beauty.
