Portrait of a lad - Cranhill Estate, Glasgow. 1999. Cranhill came to public attention after 13 year old Allan Harper was found dead after an overdose, his shoulder gnawed by the three bull terriers belonging to his motherâs boyfriend. It was thought he may have bought the heroin from one of the ice cream vans that supplied the estate.â

#NOWNESSBookClub: A Grassroots Legacy 1962 - 2010, published by @bluecoatpress , traces photographer Charlie Phillipsâ era-defining London street photography, collecting for the first time Phillipsâ images, from the streets of Notting Hill in the 1960s to his later work chronicling Afro-Caribbean funeral culture in the city đ â
â
Describing himself as a âWindrush kidâ, Phillips arrived in London from Jamaica in the late 1950s at the age of 11, spending his teenage years in Notting Hill, amidst rising racial violence and turmoil of post-war Britain â
â
Centering on his community whose lives would have gone undocumented, the book serves as a step forward in the narrative repatriation of Phillipsâ work and legacy into the canon of British photographic historyâ
