We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our friend and teammate, Madlin âCookieâ Cerny.
â˘
No matter which uniform she put on, Cookie, a 14-year old baseball player from the Chicago area, was beloved by all the teams she played for. Over the past few years, she joined the rosters of girlsâ baseball teams like the
@ca_waves_girls_baseball ,
@eastbayhurricanes , and more to compete at events like #BFANationals and the
@peachesbaseball LA49 Invitational. As the Waves put it, âshe was a silent assassin and a ânailsâ left pitcher and hitter as well as playing whatever position we needed her.â
â˘
In addition to being one of our original #BFAAmbassadors who represented the U.S. in Costa Rica, she also checked off another monumental first this year, as she, as a freshman, became the first girl at Schaumburg High Schoolâs history to make the baseball team. She had an insatiable love for the game, a tireless work ethic, and a quiet leadership that so many around her respected.
â˘
âItâs hard to put into words the devastating grief we feel for the loss of Cookie,â says
@justinesiegal . âShe will be remembered for being a wonderful teammate who led by being her own unique self. She will always be our lefty, ready to mow down batters while showing that leadership doesnât have to be loud â it just has to be genuine. Cookie was the best and we will continue to honor her spirit.â
â˘
Cookie made our baseball family stronger, and we will always keep her love of the game and her indomitable spirit with us every time we step out on the field đđ
