Planting a tiny cinematic seed with @anima.elou.di.exu tonight 18:00 at @pilarbrussels and @vub_crosstalks for the foragers exhibition. In a world where the GNO industrial complex (with all its baked-in flaws and abusive power structures) is rattling due to budget cuts from the flavor palette of Global North fascists governments, Trembling Soils aims to document grassroots Afro-Indigenous land stewardship projects on Abya Yala, working with regenerative reparations. Thereby asking how a rebalancing of flows of resources and knowledges with the imperial core, can actively dismantle white saviorist and extractivist dynamics? A big question with no straightforward answers that will likely take years to ripen. Thanks to @_____gosievervloessem______ for the invitation. Happy to share work along @_aichaouattara_ @am_j_v @annelottel @camille_dufour_ @somersdelphine @ellivassalou @faeioudaeiou @maliza.kiasuwa @marjolijn_dijkman @mathias.mu @nele____moeller @droperiofrio @samah.hijawi @soukaina @timtheo_rex

Back2soilbasics invites you for a soil sunday session in Ghent around shea butter, from leaves to butter Maimouna Kanté will guide us through the African Herstories around Shea Butter. Register at the link in our bio 🔗 @maimounakante is an agroecologist researcher and oral storyteller whose work explores the deep connections between plants, people, and African heritages. Born in Bamako, Mali, her life has been shaped by years of living and traveling across Africa. Her practice blends visual art with oral storytelling, most notably through her podcast @nafolo , where she traces the journeys of seeds and their stewards across landscapes, history, and imagination. This workshop traces the life of shea butter, following its journey from the hands of the women who craft it to the bodies and rituals of those who use it. Moving across landscapes from West to East Africa, we explore shea as more than a beauty staple: as food, as medicine, as inheritance, and as an indigenous tree rooted in complex herstories. Through guided conversation and shared experience, we ask: how did shea butter become one of the world’s most desired products, and who truly benefits from its global reach? What stories, labor, and knowledge are carried within each jar? Together, we exchange personal relationships with shea butter, touching, smelling, remembering, and learning from one another while honoring the communities that have sustained this practice for generations. 📆Schedule on Sunday 26 April ☕️At 11.00 : We welcome you starting to have a slow start with tea & coffee. 🆕This edition of the Soil Sunday we ask participants to bring a dish, an ingredient or side dish to share with others. We will piece everything together to a lunch for max. 15 people :) 🍽️At 12.00: we starting bringing the lunch together to eat at 12.30 👩🏽‍🌾At 14.00: Maimouna’s workshops starts. At 17.00 we wrap up and close off the event with a ritual. 📍The event location is at Groot Begijnhof 14, 9040 Gent (near Dampoort Station) 📍 This event centres the BIPOC experience. CHANGE OF TIME IT WILL BE AT 15.00. AND CHANGE OF LOCATION, IT WILL BE AT THE BUURTKEUKEN OF HARTETROEF, HEILIG-HARTPLEIN, 9040 GENT. Back2soilbasics invites you for a soil sunday session in Ghent to prepare an iftar dinner. 🍄✨ Back2SoilBasics is curating at VIERNULVIER (KIEMKRACHT 2026): an afternoon where mycelium becomes our framework for thinking and entering in a dialogue with the more than human and non human world. On Sat 28/02 (13:30–18:00) we’re taking over the Balzaal (De Vooruit, Ghent) with a carousel of experiences: an exhibition that invites you into our curatorial process (“Under The Mother Mushroom”) launching at 13h30, a talk on how (in)visible labour and relationships hold up the food system (Making the Invisible Visible: the food system as the mycelium) at 14h30 and an installation with Maÿtu that invites you to not only understand fungi, biomaterials and textiles, but to see and feel them too.(open to see between 13h-18h) We’re excited to weave this edition with people who each work with transformation in their own way: @Pedro Riofrio (visual artist, musician and researcher between Europe and Latin America) explores the intersection of biomaterials, technological innovation, and the physicality of sound resonances—through themes of cyclicality, time and change. @Anouk Lewkowicz (textile designer, educator) has been experimenting with mycelium-based materials since 2019 in the Maÿtu Fungal Lab, and shares her practice around fungi and textile processes. And ( @tepsi_cooking_classes )Hülya Özer, who mainly hosts Turkish cooking workshops, brings flavour, memory and knowledge: how her passion began, what cooking gives her, and what she learned from her mother and grandmother about mushroom foraging, and everything that comes with it. 💌 Community guestlist: would you like to join, and are you part of our targeted community. DM us to be added to the guestlist. (EN) WALKING INTO SPRING TOGETHER 🌱 Join us for a collective walk in the Bois de la Cambre (Terkamerenbos) on Sunday 8th of March (1pm-4pm) for a gentle welcoming of the spring season. Laurent and Tumba will guide you into the forest for a moment of reconnection and ritual. Together we will reflect upon the changing seasons and how ritual can help us connect deeper with the land. What does it take to build community? How can nature inspire us to grow more resilient networks? How can we compost our toxic productivity and remember that rest is resistance? To keep the space intimate, we have space for max. 15 people. To join, please register via the Framaform linked in our bio. Participating in our Soil Sundays is free. Although this gathering is open to all, we focus on/are centered around POC and those of the Global Majority.

2025 was a year where we went deeper into a mutual exchange with @bergeriebever through monthly visits. As a collective of people of color who live in urban environments, we went to ground and root ourselves at the farm managed by our friend and organic farmer Mahécor. His passion for sharing ancestral knowledge and his enormous love for nature translate in his way of working with the land. Being with Mahécor on his field has been an inspiration to keep nourishing our dreams of land and community living. In return, we provide the farm with many joyfull souls and helping hands committed to support a local organic farmer who we care about. The work on the land can be exhausting and neverending, and a day of collective work can really make a difference! What is growing between us is an ecological exchange between humans and nature, between farmer and consumer, between rural and urban. We are looking forward to continue investing in these relations in the seasons to come. Join our movement and visit La Bergerie with us in 2026! 🌱 👨🏿‍🌾💚 Special thanks to @kunstenplatformplanb supporting our exchange with the land as an art project. #blackfarmersbelgium #thinkglobalactlocal #back2soilbasics #farmingthefuture
