THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE/2025 🐍✨ marks the sixth year that @abacusrow and i have collaborated on a lunar new year calendar, and the fifth where proceeds go to a bay area community org. i believe the contributions and community care really do add up. thank you as always for supporting 💜
you can purchase this year’s calendar ($20 +tax) online (link in bio), in-person at the abacus row shop in san francisco, or i have some available for pickup in berkeley via dm.
all proceeds benefit @friendsoflincolnsquarepark . lincoln square park, located on the edge of oakland’s chinatown and downtown, though very underfunded, is the most used public park in oakland and truly a multi-generational and multi-cultural gem. funds go to support a new community rec center and programming to ensure the park continues to be a welcoming and thriving place for everyone, now, and for generations to come.

welcome to the YEAR OF THE WOOD DRAGON! may this be a year of good health and much happiness for us all 🧡🐲🧧🎊🍊
this is the fifth year of collaborating with @abacusrow on a lunar new year image and this year we took a different direction, inspired by Georges Rohner’s 1969 oil painting “Bataille d’oranges.” we interpreted the still life as a photo, highlighting the orange, the ultimate symbol of abundance and good fortune.
as is tradition, we’re doing a lunar new year calendar fundraiser and all proceeds will go to @chinatownvolunteercoalition a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to providing language support, uplifting merchants, and planning cultural events in the SF and Oakland Chinatown communities.
to purchase a calendar visit @abacusrow ’s shop in sf or online, or dm me to arrange a berkeley pick up.

a still life cover for the march/april issue of @wired magazine.
“While the president of this country is promising to make America great again as he strips it for parts, Chinese business and political leaders have quietly seized the moment. This is not to say that China’s economy, let alone its repressive totalitarian government, runs perfectly. But today there’s almost no limit to what is created in China, then eagerly consumed by the rest of the world.”
thank you to these talented folks! styling @gordandeng , photo direction @palomashutes , creative direction @_alyssawalker
last in this series of auspicious foods is noodles for a long happy life 🍜♾️. apparently it’s luckiest to slurp, not bite or cut short your noods.
these photos were my contribution to Ăn Tết, a lunar new year zine by @abacusrow full of stories and recipes from bay area creatives. all proceeds benefit the @asianlawcaucus , the nation’s oldest civil and legal rights org serving low income immigrant communities.
the mighty peanut! in chinese (花生) it very sweetly translates to “born from flowers.” they’re often called longevity nuts and symbolize rebirth and a long healthy life ♾️🌼

more symbolism in LNY foods! 💫 i’m leaning in, because we need all the good energy we can get.
mandarins represent luck, happiness, and a full life with their roundness and vibrant color. bonus: with the stem and leaves attached they also bring in longevity and fertility
the century egg symbolizes a long life and deepening wisdom. i used to think they looked rotten, but they’re actually a delicacy and pretty mild tasting! they’re a preserved duck egg, which transforms the yolk to green, and the whites to a translucent dark brown jelly.
these photos can be found in issue 2 of An Tet, a delightful zine by @abacusrow full of stories and recipes from bay area creatives. all proceeds will be donated to @asianlawcaucus
one of my faves, the humble cabbage (百財 bai cai) is also an icon in chinese culture —a symbol of prosperity with its leafy layers representing “100 types of luck” and its color representing money 🥬=🤑
this photo along with other studies of symbolic LNY foods can be found in Ăn Tết, Issue 2, a zine by @abacusrow featuring 21 recipes from rad bay area creatives.
pick up a copy at their shop or order at abacusrow.com. all proceeds benefit the @asianlawcaucus , a nonprofit fighting for immigrant justice, economic security and a stronger, multiracial democracy
wishing everyone good health, good luck, and good energy this year of the horse! 🐎🧧🎋for the annual LNY calendar with @abacusrow , we created a menu of edible arrangements with questionable flavor. though this is still the daikon-carrot cake and shrimp toast of my dreams!🍰🌸 here are some more close ups along with outtakes.
to purchase a calendar, visit abacus row’s shop in SF, order online (link in bio), or dm me for a pick up in berkeley. calendar proceeds go to California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice (@ccijustice ) an org that uses advocacy and legal assistance to fight for the liberation of immigrants in detention and create systemic change.
welcome all, to THE YEAR OF THE FIRE HORSE! 🎊🐴🏮🌸🎋 for this year’s lunar new year calendar collab with @abacusrow , we went in search of whimsy and lightness to balance out any chaos to come. we created a menu for an imaginary cafe, 100% prioritizing cuteness over taste😝. it’s edible arrangements™️ meets @chinese_plating —we hope you enjoy!
calendars are $25 +tax, 18x26” printed on premium paper. purchase at @abacusrow ’s shop in SF, online (link in bio), or dm for pick up in berkeley.
