Did you know that we can grow enough healthy food for a future population while 🥕 eliminating synthetic fertilisers and pesticides 🥕 nearly doubling the amount of land available for green and ecological infrastructure (ponds, hedges, meadows etc.) 🥕 releasing 7.5% of the current agricultural area for more flexible use 🥕 reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from agriculture by at least 38% by 2050 (with potential to offset 60%+ of remaining emissions through an afforestation scenario) 🥕 all without compromising food security or offshoring food production and the associated environmental impacts. This research is part of the @ffc_commission and IDDRI analysis that shows agroecology can produce enough healthy food for a future UK population. You can read the report, Farming for Change: mapping a route to 2030, in full via LINK IN BIO.

Over the past decades, Ibiza’s land use has changed from flora and farmland to urban development and abandonment to forest cover. This has led to a loss of rural communities, landscapes and the disappearance of local plant varieties, animal breeds and traditional knowledge. The island of Ibiza’s food supply is now largely dependent on imports. in 2018 @IbizaPreservation launched the @IbizaProduce project in 2018, in order to create a platform through which: 🥕 Producers can access more markets 🥕 Chefs are connected to farms to buy directly from the source 🥕 Customers are made aware of where to buy or consume authentic local produce 🥕 New producers are supported to set up agriculture/food businesses in Ibiza 🥕 Local schools and hospitals commit to buying local products Over the past year, Organic produce on the island has increased by 10% which is a great stat to champion. However, a report of theirs also notes that the island is far from meeting the UN's Sustainable Development Goals - more to be done! Further info 👉 LINKINBIO

The newly released We Feed The World book has some EPIC photography. This is a personal favourite shot by @sophiegerrard of Angus and Ena MacDonald in North Uist, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. I love the curiosity and natural innocence in the eyes of this majestic animal. The whole set of photographs in this series show how farming really connects people to the land. Sophie notes the words of Angus Macdonald as he moves his highland cattle across the bay at low tide at Bayhead, North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. "My son, daughter in law and friends and neighbours help with the crossing. The cattle are then moved to another island where they remain for 6 months." Crofters (small scale farmers) on North Uist, South Uist and Benbecula grow indigenous Uist barley as winter cattle feed. Working on the edge-lands of the UK, and tolerating a harsh climate and difficult growing conditions this is a challenging and beautiful part of the world to be a farmer. .. simply magical.

ANNOUNCING THE GRANTEES FOR FARMING THE FUTURE’S 2020 GRANT POOL Farming the Future fosters a culture of collaboration through pooled grant making to strengthen the ecosystem of the food and farming movement. We are addressing our broken food system, with the objective to instil systemic resilience and fortify the movement. We’re super proud of the work funded this year. The grants recognise the benefits of, and threats to, the regenerative farming movement. They work to safeguard and strengthen agroecology and its principles from practise to policy. The 16 projects span across local and national issues, through initiatives that tackle complex issues, such as connecting economics, education, land access, policy, and social justice. LINK IN BIO

In the spring, the @kindlingtrust will be launching their share offer for the public to invest in the Kindling Farm. Kindling Farm is their response to an unsustainable and unjust food system, by creating a food economy that places fairness, sustainability and health at its heart. One that values the growers and producers of our food, respects and nurtures the land and puts the health and well-being of our communities centre stage. The Farm will be a place where they can support a new generation of farmers, increase access to organic veg for all, pioneer the most ecological farming methods and support others to create social change in their own communities. For more info - LINK IN BIO 💫

SUPPORT REGENERATIVE FARMING THIS CHRISTMAS! Our friends over at the @thegaiafoundation have created this handy guide of how to support regenerative farming this Christmas. Last (but not least) on Gaia's Christmas list is 'A Small Farm Future' by Chris Smaje published by @chelseagreenbooks A bible to accompany the regenerative farm transition! Chris Smaje is a social scientist turned smallholder farmer in Somerset. Chris has been running Vallis Veg on the outskirts of Frome for many years as well as being an active commentator on the future of agroecological farming practices. In A Small Farm Future, he analyses the complex forces that make societal change inevitable and explains how low-carbon, locally self-reliant, agrarian communities can empower us to successfully confront these changes head-on. 💫 LINK IN BIO 💫 (📸: : @advaya.co )

SUPPORT REGENERATIVE FARMING THIS CHRISTMAS! Our friends over at the @thegaiafoundation have created this handy guide of how to support regenerative farming this Christmas. Next up is the @lwa_calendar The much-loved @LandworkersAlliance calendar returns for another year with stunning artwork from UK printmaker @rosannaprints . Another Farm is Possible features a unique work of art every month, collating farmer stories from across the UK. Look out for the month of August which this year features Llafur Ni – Welsh for Our Cereals – which has been established to support the revival of heritage grains as part of Gaia’s Seed Sovereignty Programme in Wales. Proceeds go towards the critical work of the LWA in strengthening the grassroots agroecological farming movement. 💫 LINK IN BIO 💫

WHO FEEDS US? EPISODE 1 by @farmerama_radio 🌱💪🏼 -------- As the COVID-19 lockdown hit the UK in early 2020, our nation suddenly looked very different. Supermarket shelves were empty & for the first time in most people’s lives we started to question how we were going to feed ourselves & our families. Almost overnight localised food systems went from being niche fantasies to a vital source of sustenance for many people. But who—and what—made up those localised food systems? Where did this sudden burst of community provision come from? -------- Who Feeds Us? #6: Looking Back and Moving Forward The final instalment of the series revisits the people introduced in previous episodes and unravels the common threads that bind these seemingly disparate voices together, such as reverence, gratitude, sovereignty, dignity and abundance. We hear more about they’ve learnt so far this year and their visions for resilient, localised food economies growing into the future. Food is clearly not just a question of calories; food is nourishment for the body and soul. Food is about community, culture and our relationship with each other and with the Earth. We are all part of the food system. The journey towards a truly resilient, humane and nourishing food system is complicated and will most likely be a bumpy one. The series closes with an invitation to embrace that complexity, to dive in, to seek out and connect with those who feed us, because food doesn’t come from shelves, food comes from the soil, the sea, and the hands of people. This is who feeds us. This episode features @skyegyngell @spring_ldn Jane Scotter @fernverrow Salma & Khalil Attan @bushwoodbees Ursula Myrie Angus Buchanan-Smith @thefreecompanysco Dee Woods @grancomkitchen Dr Lisa Palmer, Muhsen Hassanin @abrahamorganics @rosybenson @fieldbakery Lynda McFarlane @vegan_vybes - thank you for sharing your voices and stories! Illustration: @hgraceoc 💫 👉 LINK IN BIO 👈 💫
