✨ Celebrating our @asuengineering spring 2026 Outstanding Graduates! 🎉 Grand Challenges Scholar Trevor Smith built experience through impactful research working in the Semiconductor Device Research Lab and through an @epics_asu project developing an affordable braille display for visually impaired students in South Africa. Through his experiences, he says that students may overestimate the difficulty and scale of electrical engineering as a major, but highlights the many resources that can help students stay on track. One of the most important resources he says students should utilize: connecting with faculty. 🎓 After graduation, Smith plans to stay in the Fulton Schools and begin his master’s degree in electrical engineering, focusing on his interests in mixed-signal circuit design and semiconductor devices. #ASUgrad #ASUEngineering #ASU #ElectricalEngineering

✨ Celebrating our @asuengineering spring 2026 Outstanding Graduates! 🎉 Congratulations to 2026 Palais Outstanding Doctoral Student Award winner Glen S. Uehara. He completed his PhD in electrical engineering with a research focus on the development of novel QML algorithms for quantum signal processing and quantum communication systems. At ASU’s Sensor, Signal and Information Processing, or SenSIP, center, and Quantum Collaborative, he contributed to building a stronger presence in quantum research, collaborating with industry partners in the process, and applying quantum techniques to real-world challenges. Uehara credits much of his development at ASU to his long-time mentor Andreas Spanias, a professor of electrical engineering in the Fulton Schools, whose guidance spanned decades and helped mold his career in signal processing and communications. For his exceptional efforts, Uehara is being recognized with the Palais Outstanding Doctoral Student Award, an honor given to a single electrical engineering doctoral student each year who exemplifies academic and research achievement. The award was first established in 2003 by Professor Emeritus Joseph Palais, a former electrical engineering graduate program chair, and his wife, Sandra. After graduation, Uehara will continue working at @generaldynamics while remaining closely connected to ASU. He plans to contribute to quantum research and education, working with SenSIP and the Fulton Schools to help strengthen the learning experience for future students. 🎓 Congratulations, Dr. Uehara! #ASUgrad #ASUEngineering #ASU #ElectricalEngineering
