A belated thank you to all who attended, sponsored, donated, and bid at Jewels 2023. The event was a success! We'd like to thank our sponsors, board, and associate board members, and of course our community. Without you, none of our work would be possible. In 25 years, we have achieved so much, and we look forward to seeing what we can build in the next 25 to come. Thank you for helping us celebrate! This weekend we celebrated the Up-Top mural at Atgeld Gardens! In the Going Live workshop led by artist Nathan Miller, teen participants photographed the people and places that give Altgeld Gardens its distinct character. More than 100 portraits of Altgeld residents are now featured on a new mural on the facade of the historic neighborhood Up-Top building. Built in 1945 by architects Keck & Keck, Up-Top originally served as the commercial center of Altgeld Gardens, but has been vacant for over thirty years. This project and other related events are giving the building new life!! Follow along with this project at @goinglive_altgeld !

Even before formalizing as a non-profit, we carried out one of our earliest projects at the Pulaski Community Academy in 1997. Teamed together with @chipubschools , @chicagoparks , and the Pulaski Community Academy, we transformed the school grounds into a blossoming garden with a river walk, mosaic turtle planter, and new hopscotch area. This project nurtured seeds of knowledge and helped create a sense of place for the school community, with gardens used still to this day, flourishing with love and care. Do you have memories to share of your experience with Architreasures? We would love to hear them! Please share via the link in our bio or through DM! Thank you for being part of our community. #AT25years #celebratingcommunity

As part of our 25th Anniversary campaign, we're excited to share a summer memory from our "Loving" mural installation in the Washington Park community back in July 2011. This public art program aimed to bring vibrancy to a large enclosed courtyard of a multi-unit building. We were fortunate to have the talented artist, collaborator, and first-time griller (?!) @heyitsmatthew as part of this project. Matthew, reflecting on the experience, recalls it being particularly hot out on the mural installation and community barbecue day: "I had never grilled before, and got completely lost in the smoke." In the spirit of camaraderie and new experiences, a funny memory remains. AT’s history is rich with moments like this-- our participant's ability to foster a sense of community and joy despite challenges... grill or otherwise. 😊 We would love to hear more from you, any memories and experiences with AT in the past 25 years, please DM us or use the link in bio to share. Thank you for your continued support! 🌟✨ #AT25years #community

🎨✨ To continue our reflection of the past 25 years, here is a project from 1998! A collaboration between the Bickerdike Youth Council and Architreasures, "Face It!" was a temporary public art project spanning 15 different sites, to shine a spotlight on the complex issue of gentrification and new community homes. "Face It!" was more than just an art project; it was a catalyst for conversation and a call to action. It served as a poignant reminder of the need for equitable and inclusive development that preserves the essence of neighborhoods while empowering the voices of those most affected. Join us in celebrating the impact of "Face It!" and its lasting legacy in raising awareness about gentrification and the importance of community-driven solutions.

It was a celebratory ribbon cutting at the newly renovated Carlton Apartments, a 68-unit supportive housing apartment building located in Uptown's Historic District. Congratulations to Mercy Housing and the residents who get to enjoy this beautiful home and thank you to everyone involved in the project! This is the third Uptown rehab that we have worked with @mercyhousing and @architreasures on and we can't wait for future collaborations. And thanks Eileen Molony for some of these shots! #supportivehousing #ribboncutting #historicrestoration

We had the privilege of joining the ribbon cutting event for the newly renovated Carlton Apartments in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood! 🏙️✨ Thanks to @mercyhousing , this historic building will continue to provide affordable housing for the community. In neighborhoods that have been transformed by market forces in the past few decades, such as Uptown, we are proud to partner in the restoration of SROs to create more dignified, uplifting living spaces for residents. The Carlton Apartments project marks the third Uptown SRO building we've completed with Mercy Housing, along with the Miriam Apartments and Major Jenkins Apartments. As part of the project team, Architreasures had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with Carlton residents, Mercy Housing team members, and architects at @lbbarchitects to bring new artwork to the restored building. Artist @judithmayercreative combined inspiring phrases selected by the Carlton community with captivating typographic designs to produce a series of colorful hallway word paintings which were recently recognized at the international Type Directors Club letter competition. @printerthomas the creative force behind the front entry ceramic artwork, also hosted workshops that gave residents an opportunity to contribute directly to the painting of murals featured in the community and activity rooms. It was awesome to see this completed project and we are excited to be able to share it with you! Follow us or join our newsletter for more project updates. 📲

📍As part of our Riverdale Creative Cultural Connections project, Architreasures facilitated an amazing intergenerational workshop series at the Altgeld Library & Family Resource Center to create protective Flying Being sculptures with community members. 🪶 We invited participants to reflect on their collective vision and decorate feathers with messages and colors that bring peace and healing. Winged mannequins covered by the painted feathers will soon be featured in an installation of Flying Beings, embodying the things that unify the Riverdale community. 💫 Thank you to artist @lilachschrag for leading this workshop series, and to all of the participants for their creativity and dedication. Keep an eye out for the display of this collaborative neighborhood art project. It's a testament to the power of art, healing, and community!

It's fun to reminisce about the good ol' days... We want to hear YOUR memories too! 🌎 Take a quick moment to complete our survey and share your Architreasures experience.
