Taking the floor at City Hall for #NextGen City Council Day, social science students from across the district stepped into the role of city council members, leading formal voting procedures and presenting policy proposals they’ve worked on throughout the school year to address challenges facing Chicago’s youth.
Through the #NextGen Program, in partnership with @chicityclerk Anna Valencia, our students aren’t just joining the conversation; they’re leading it, seeing firsthand the impact their voices can have in shaping decisions at the local level that directly affect their communities.

Washington Irving Elementary School is now home to a state-of-the-art STEM lab! Equipped with 3D printing stations, Meta Quest Headsets, laptops, a Promethean board, and more, this space serves as a launchpad for innovation. This new lab will strengthen instruction by providing hands-on STEM learning experiences that spark curiosity and encourage experimentation, creating growing opportunities for students to collaborate, explore, create, think critically, and build problem-solving skills through real-world applications across science, technology, engineering, and math.

🎓🚨🚒 Congrats to the CPFTA Class of 2026!
Honored in a special ceremony by the @chicagopolicedepartment@chicagofiredept , and Interim Superintendent/CEO Dr. Macqueline King, through rigorous training, including summer internships, this year, 100 cadets have completed certifications in CPR/First Aid, OSHA General Public Safety, OSHA Law Enforcement, Provisional Fire Safety Director training, and Community Emergency Response Training, among others—propelling them forward in their pursuit of careers in public safety, law enforcement, criminal justice, and fire science.
Upon completing their associate degrees at @citycollegeschicago , they will be eligible to take entrance exams for the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Fire Department.
