Asia on Argyle, located in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood, is our next spotlight. The district, made up of the blocks around the Argyle Red Line stop, began taking shape in the 1970s as Chinese entrepreneurs and refugees from Vietnam and Cambodia settled in the area. Today, it’s known for its AANHPI-owned restaurants, businesses and community events.

Celebrating a remarkable career! ✨🎊
After more than 40 years of dedicated service to the City of Chicago and the Office of the City Clerk, I am proud to honor Ms. Darlean Jackson on her retirement. From her early days as an Extra Clerk in 1982 to her leadership role as Supervisor of License Issuance, Ms. Jackson’s commitment to serving Chicago residents has left a lasting impact on our office and our city. We celebrate her incredible legacy and decades of public service. Please join me in thanking Ms. Jackson and wishing her continued happiness and success in this next chapter!

I had a great time in the 27th Ward & 10th District Spring Senior Bingo celebration alongside @ald.walterburnett , State Representative Jawaharial Omar Williams , and Chicago Neighbors United for an afternoon of community, connection, food, prizes and fun. We were also excited to share the Office of the City Clerk’s senior guide books. They help connect Chicago’s seniors with important and supportive city resources, services and information. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make this event so special for our seniors!
Taking the floor at City Hall for #NextGen City Council Day, social science students from across the district stepped into the role of city council members, leading formal voting procedures and presenting policy proposals they’ve worked on throughout the school year to address challenges facing Chicago’s youth.
Through the #NextGen Program, in partnership with @chicityclerk Anna Valencia, our students aren’t just joining the conversation; they’re leading it, seeing firsthand the impact their voices can have in shaping decisions at the local level that directly affect their communities.

Sometimes all it takes is one opportunity to help shape a young person’s future. I first learned about opportunities in government through a job shadowing experience that opened my eyes to the possibilities of public service and helped inspire the path I’m on today. That’s why I believe representation, access and exposure matter so much. Young people deserve the chance to see themselves in leadership and know there is a place for them in government and public service.
Our #NextGenCityCouncil event was a success! 🎉
Students from eight CPS high schools are spending the day at City Hall. This morning, they were welcomed by Alderman Felix Cardona Jr., Acting Chief of Teaching and Learning Dr. Annise Lewis, Hispanic Federation Midwest Policy Director Roberto Valdez J and Clerk Valencia before working with community members to refine their policy proposals. Later this afternoon, students presented, debated and voted on their ordinances during their own student-run City Council meeting.
A shoutout to our student mayor and student clerk for an amazing job. Thank you to everyone for their hard work!
My advice to all young people is to seek out mentors who cheer for you, recognize the values that ground you and keep pushing forward. Leadership is not a linear journey, and it’s important not to give up.
I'm looking forward to welcoming our young leaders tomorrow for our final #NextGen City Council event!
Thank you to the University of Chicago Institute of Politics for hosting an engaging and thoughtful conversation that featured Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and political strategist David Axelrod. They discussed her journey to Congress, the challenges that our nation is facing and the importance of being present in our communities.
