Here’s a look at a self directed project I created for a #21dayportfolioboostchallenge with @inkygoodnesscollective —a fun group challenge to make new portfolio work. I had the desire to extend the brand of an organization I admire — @wckitchen World Central Kitchen’s mission is a great example of how to be the helpers in a bad situation. I designed a food illustration series to extend their brand for public-facing promotions and merchandise for fund raising. Their method of using local foods and restaurants to feed those affected by a disaster was my focus. I highlighted foods that a region is known for to connect with people who share that culture or who have a connection to the region.
An editorial illustration with hand lettering I created for the cover of July’s Military Officer magazine for Military Officers Association of America (@moaaofficial ). Shown as well is the client-approved pencil sketch. I used color to emphasize the concept of protection. It was a fun project to work on with them, and I like how it turned out! I’d love to more lettering and illustration for magazines.
Looking back gratefully to April 2023 when Rev. Jesse Jackson was an honored guest at the unveiling of the mural I designed and painted with students and faculty celebrating the late mayor, Harold Washington. Rev. Jackson campaigned to help elect Washington as Chicago’s first Black mayor. (If you want to know more about the historic political moment, check out @punch9movie ) At the unveiling, Rev. Jackson said a prayer and spoke with many who were with him in 1983 rallying support and leading the mayoral campaign to victory. I lived through the event as a child but didn’t learn about the racist political machine that was overcome until later in life. I knew Jackson as one of the few Black people on the news in the 80s speaking about Rainbow PUSH Coalition’s civil rights efforts. @haroldwashingtoncollege

The 2026 season kicks off late February. It was so fun to illustrate this year’s marketing imagery for Towle Theater. I’ve not drawn a creepy doll or a lawn flamingo facing off with a porch goose before! Season tickets are on sale now at @towle.theater
