It was a honor to host renowned artist Jefferson Pinder for a Fine Art Friday talk last week at CSU Art and Design. There was great conversation between students, faculty and admin staff in response to how Jefferson’s activations of space and time. He will be back to make a print with us next month before he goes over seas after winning the Rome Prize.
So, as I enter my second year as Chair of Art and Design at Chicago State, I am pleased to announce that we have successfully finished the first edition for Artist, Paul Branton. He is a part of our new printmaking artist in residence program. The program allows us to pay our students as print interns to assist in the production which gives them great experience with the artists and the tools and equipment centered around the print medium. I want to give a shout out to Curlee Holton if Raven Editions. It was my experience with him at EPI Lafayette College that inspired me to get this going here at CSU. Paul’s print is now available for purchase. DM me for details. I also want to thank CSU and the CSU Foundation for the support. Had a blast at Sunday’s NASCAR Chicago Street Race. This was the third year of me creating the cup trophy, but only the first year actually attending the race. Being the motorhead that I am, it was amazing that I was so close to the action and that they were run in on the same streets I drive on pretty much every day. On top of that freakin Shane van Ginsbergen swept the weekend and I was able to meet him. He win the inaugural race in 2023 and the Xfinity race last year, so he now has a collection of trophys from Chicago Artists. I want to thank Eric Stevenson from Lunarburn studios, who has been doing the casting work and the folks at NASCAR Chicago for the opportunity to do this unique work in collaboration. #hummingbirdpresseditions #lunarburnsstudio #nascarchicago
