Residential Building in Sinsa-dong - Designed by @cho_n_partners Photography by @studiodh_photography Construction: Rims General Construction "The site is located in a narrow alley connected to Dosandaero, between Sinsa Station and Apgujeong Station. In a site where various materials and features are mixed, we tried to design features that only the project could have in a somewhat cluttered environment using simple and refined materials. The design, layered horizontally with the road, presents different building elevations to pedestrians approaching from both sides of the road. The stacked façade is connected to the outdoor space of each floor, providing a resting space for internal users and externally adding a sense of depth to the building. The main characteristic of the building is that it emphasizes the form of a 'huge mass' by giving up the exclusive area of ​​the first floor to the upper floor and securing a sense of openness by keeping the main entrance and exit flow line long, and this is something that only this project can have in the urban characteristics of Gangnam and the narrow alleys. It is typically constructed from bamboo or wood, forming roofless corridors, pavilions, and walls. Climbing plants are then grown to eventually cover the walls and roofs. Wutopia Lab used the feather-like shape of leaves as a prototype to create various combinations of wall and roof structures along the 1.2-kilometer stretch. These structures open, close, stand alone, overlap, and even disappear, redefining the previously monotonous design of the trellis corridor.
