They call art a luxury.
But for us? Itās a lifeline.
To every community space that held me ā this is for you.
Inspired by @jamaal.burkmar words about art being a necessity.
Art is not a luxury ā itās how we survive.
For the working class. For the community.
For those of us told we didnāt belong in creative spaces.

not every day is easy
not every day feels breezy
but i am glad
i breathe
i am glad
i can move my feet
i am still free
some days are hard
but itās okay
because i remember i still have time
i can still
snooze the alarm
take a deep breath
slow down
it okay to frown
but remember you wonāt drown
remember to swim
let all the feelings in

here is some ideas that the Greek philosophers had about on loveeee
Greek philosophers described different types of love, and itās fascinating! Check it out:
1. Eros: This is the passionate and romantic love that makes your heart race and butterflies flutter in your stomach. Itās like a beautiful fire burning inside you.
2. Philia: Imagine having a deep friendship where you feel a strong connection and understanding. Itās a love that goes beyond physical attraction and is built on trust and support.
3. Ludus: Ah, the excitement of a crush and getting to know someone! Ludus is that playful love that fills your days with joy and anticipation. Itās like a fun game of love.
4. Agape: Get ready for something powerful. Agape is a spiritual kind of love that embraces empathy, acceptance, forgiveness, and trust for everyone. Itās a love that knows no boundaries.
5. Pragma: Picture a love that stands the test of time. Pragma is about long-lasting relationships built on compromises, patience, and understanding. Itās about growing and staying in love.
6. Philautia: Before you can truly love others, you need to love yourself. Philautia is all about self-love and self-compassion. Itās about nurturing your own well-being and expanding your capacity to love others.
7. Storge: Family love is a special bond. Storge represents the love between family members, where shared memories, support, and care create a deep connection that lasts a lifetime.
8. Mania: Brace yourself for intense emotions. Mania is an obsessive form of love, where you feel consumed by someone. It can be overwhelming and sometimes unhealthy, but itās still a part of the complex tapestry of love.
Isnāt it incredible how love can take on so many different forms?
what is love?
I can only tell you by sharing every memory i have with the ones
who bought love to my life
Love love love
some memories of love
- when my sister saw me crying and she didnāt ask what was wrong, she just hugged me
- sitting with my cousin talking, I felt like I was too much, my cousin reached out to hold my hand, and told me itās okay
- sitting in the park with my friend talking about politics
- making art
- laughing
- giving strangers compliments
come along on the
23rd of May 2026
1pm to 3pm

One of my favourite parts of Art for Freedom was hearing how the space landed for people.
Apittame Arts has always been about creating rooms where people feel held, expressive, and connected.
Co-creating this event with Queer Coffee š a space where Iāve always felt safe and at home š«¶š¾meant a lot to me.
Together we fundraised for Refuge Roots and gathered in community through art, conversation, and care.
This is why we keep making these spaces.
More gatherings coming soon ā¤ļø Check out link in bio šø

Apittame Arts Archives by Imani Ahiro
Looking back over the years at the different spaces Iāve had the privilege of holding and being part ofšøš«¶š¾
Apittame Arts started from a desire to create community through creativity, at a time when I was feeling lost in London. It began with a creative writing session exploring Afrofuturism, Black presence, and Black British historical figures. thank youuuu Melissa Wills, who runs @womenlikemeldn for encouraging and helping me to run my first seshhhš
As Iāve moved through these spaces and moments, Iāve slowly uncovered what I want to do with my life or at least what I want to do with my life so far.
Each space has taught me something new about creativity, connection, and what happens when people are given room to write, reflect, and simply be.
I always find it refreshing to be in a room with people who are seasoned creatives, just beginning their journey, or finding their footing again because the things that are shared when we allow ourselves to exist together are truly beautiful.
One of my favourite moments was hearing that a workshop inspired someone to start being creative again.
So thank you, thank you, thank you.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who has come and shared space with us.
Grateful for every venue, every participant, and every moment of shared vulnerability that has made these workshops possible.
Taking up space, making space, and continuing the work āØ
