This Friday I return with a new EP after more than two years: “Reconstruction of The Hague Central Station”. The record is entirely sourced from field recordings made in and around The Hague Central Station and the reconstruction of its entrance at Koningin Julianaplein. This video shows part of the creative process behind one of the tracks, “Crouwel” — named after the station’s architect. The opening of the video features footage and field recordings of infrasound generated by public transport systems. These recordings were transformed into kicks and bass, shaping the track’s slow-burning, bass-driven character through submerged pulses and mechanical force. Fragments of intermodal friction from the station itself — tram squeals, bells, movement and electromagnetic interference — are reconfigured into dark textures and a hypnotic, internalized soundscape. All field recordings were made using a @zoomsoundlab H5, @lom.label Geofon and @somasynths Ether. All recordings were processed with @weareelektron Digitakt II and @apple Logic Pro X. OKIN-OMIS is a sound artist and DJ based in The Hague, who explores the world through sound. As a field recordist, he undertakes immersive journeys to capture the essence of diverse locations, collecting sonic landscapes that reveal fleeting moments in time. His approach transforms raw environmental recordings into biotic rhythms and cellular textures, crafting a distinctive artistic language that reshapes our perception of sound and environment. OKIN-OMIS’ previous releases include ‘Buda’s Barrels’ — an auditory document of a field-recording session in Budapest, Hungary; ‘Louterion’ — a composition built from recordings of water streams, taps, drains and sewers, transformed into a fluid and percussive work, referencing the ancient Greek ritual basin; and a remix of ‘Mechanical Motions’ by Kid Baltan, featured on Remixes XX, released by Antilounge Records in celebration of the label’s 20th anniversary. His upcoming project ‘Reconstruction of The Hague Central Station’ is another site-specific work that captures movement in time, intermodal resonances and hidden sonic architectures.
