“Reconstruction of The Hague Central Station” — a site-specific release capturing movement in time, intermodal resonances and hidden sonic architectures.
This Friday I return with a new EP after more than two years: “Reconstruction of The Hague Central Station”.
The record is entirely sourced from field recordings made in and around The Hague Central Station and the reconstruction of its entrance at Koningin Julianaplein.
This video shows part of the creative process behind one of the tracks, “Crouwel” — named after the station’s architect.
The opening of the video features footage and field recordings of infrasound generated by public transport systems. These recordings were transformed into kicks and bass, shaping the track’s slow-burning, bass-driven character through submerged pulses and mechanical force.
Fragments of intermodal friction from the station itself — tram squeals, bells, movement and electromagnetic interference — are reconfigured into dark textures and a hypnotic, internalized soundscape.
All field recordings were made using a @zoomsoundlab H5, @lom.label Geofon and @somasynths Ether. All recordings were processed with @weareelektron Digitakt II and @apple Logic Pro X.

🎛 RHYTHMIC & PRODUCTION PROCES of Kid Baltan’s “Mechanical Motions (OKIN-OMIS Remix)”
📹 In this second reel you see the proces behind the rhythmic elements of my “Mechanical Motion” remix. Starting with a sample from the original track, followed by the edited and processed sample for the kick, bass, snare and hats. At the end of this reel you’ll hear a snippets of this percussive, slow burning and bass heavy remix. Check out my previous reel to get an insight in the sampling and slicing proces behind this remix.
🍃 To accentuate the organic and percussive character of the original track, I layered a lot of my own field recordings in this remix.
💿 Since the original track is made in the 50s with tape recorders, tone- and noise generators in the Philips Physics Laboratory, I kept its experimental, randomness and variance within in a nowadays DJ-friendly grid. Instead of BPM switches, which were included in the original track, I choose to implement the nowadays common halftime / double time technique.
