If you live in Texas you have no excuse not to visit one of the finest modern art museums in the world, the Menil. I've visited many in my time - most recently the Peggy Guggenheim in Venice and the Joan Miro in Barcelona - and the Menil is in their league, without a doubt. Plus the building itself is a Renzo Piano architectural marvel.
Sometimes you ask for an assignment for one reason and end up with something even bigger and better than what you could have imagined. Last night's show at @antonesnightclub was one for the ages! @nicklowesdog and swamp pop legend #JohnnieAllan performing. Allan is the 'OG' of so many songs in our zeitgeist, and can still belt them out, even at 86. Seeing Lowe side-stage, recording Allan's show on his phone, and then watching them in conversation between the sets was something magical. And both sets were just stellar! Thank you to Antone's and @exiledeve and #LosStraightjackets in full #luchalibre masks for bringing this to the stage. When the parking is already full at 6:20 PM for a 9 PM show, and the line of happy people snakes around the building, and the merch line goes on forever, it's a definite party going down. I didn't understand this about a @pink show, but someone who's sold 135 million albums AND regularly flies above the audience AND brings flamingos and party lights onstage is doing something right. She's not that easy to shoot - it takes a long lens from the soundboard - plus being fast to point and focus. But, it's worth it. Her antics with her dancers and aerialist were precious, especially as she looked at one of them with crossed eyes. Maybe I'll just buy a ticket next time - people in the audience couldn't have been nicer, and that makes for a great time for me. Shot for @gettyimages

Her jacket was just given to her by the arena team, making her re-select her wardrobe so that she could wear it. Totally worth it. More leisurely pace for Day 3 of #Levitation (at least for me). Opted to stay at the Far Out Lounge, which hosted primarily electronic artists. First one I covered was #ArushiJain, who fuses Indian classical music with western electronics (pretty inspiring, now I need my own board!). Atlanta-based @realwashedout noted that they probably play more dates in Austin than anywhere else - and his new show has some amazing projections, executed with true precision. The evening headliner though was @tychomusic who brought the mirror ball action. A bit of rain wasn't so welcomed but was short-lived, providing opportunity for nice chat (the 'poop in the woods' conversation with the Tycho merch guy was interesting!) and catch up with friends. And I put one more of #DavidYow and @TheJesusLizard in for good measure. Shot for @gettyimages .

More great bands from Day 2 of @Levitation - @drycleaningband plus @sliftrock from Toulouse, France and @fatdogfatdogfatdog_ who got DOWN with the audience (Joe Love is a great performer/musician and quite the charmer!). Best bands for me though were @gangoffourofficial - whose bassist #GailGreenwood "saw" me as I saw her: two women/kindred souls still rocking out with no intent to stop anytime soon - and @realpissedjeans whose off-the chart full out stage presence was simply awesome. However, the evening was owned by a rare appearance of @thejesuslizardofficial who turned the knob to 11 on stagecraft, crowd surfing and moshing. Lead singer #DavidYow kept his clothes (mostly) on for our first 3 songs in the pit. Many musicians in the audience came specifically to see them - their musicianship with punk-rock wrapping is really tough to top and a master class for more than a few who were there. @levitation started strong at #Stubbs on Thursday night, with @mdou_moctar and @theblackangels taking the stage and performing great sets. Around the corner at @empireatx , @agriculture_music earned the right to be described as 'extreme black metal', and @starcrawler had all the spooky vibes - and it's normal for them. Had a lovely shoot at an event to premiere "Push Push", a short film about @lewishamilton sponsored by @whatsapp and @mercedesamgf1 . Lewis is not the most forthcoming - he's introverted and shy (although definitely a competitor) but @naomischiff made him feel comfy in front of the small crowd, and they talked about things that mattered. I got a glimpse of Lewis's tender heart as he spoke of his family, and their sacrifices for him, and what he is building as his legacy. It was really a delightful evening and a wonderful peek into what is the greatest F1 driver of our time. Also - he brought his 1st place trophy from the US Grand Prix, from 2017.
