Now that my studio is the MOST ORGANIZED ITS EVER BEEN! …. Starting today, I will accept commission inquiries until March 16th, at which point I will not take any commissions unless special circumstances, until October. I get asked about my oversized sweatpants a lot and I thought about offering to custom make a few pairs, not to mention costumes and fun festival pieces. What do y’all think? Would you like a pair of booty shorts? Or a full costume? Some oversized clown sweats? So this video is a few examples of pieces I’ve made, different finishes, and fabrics. These are the basic designs I’m offering up for the time being. All these designs will be custom fit and your choice of fabric - there are soooooo many options! I’m still working out commission prices, but it would be somewhere around this: Booty shorts $50 Booty short overalls $60 Basic top: $50 Top with custom details: $75-$90 Body Suit: $90 Body suit with custom finishing: $100+ High Waist Joggers: $100 Clown Sweats: $100 Full costume, design of choice with extra detail and finishes, plus optional gloves, leg bits and a hair accessory: $300+ This is a little soft opening, but wanted to give this a spin, sharing my creations more, making pieces for others and not just for my own crew! #makersgonnamake #sewing #design #costumes #circuscostumes #festivalwear #sparkles

Behind the scenes isn’t always a dream. The old systems were no longer supporting the capacity at which I now operate. Two studio moves, life overwhelm, disorientation and grief was reflected in the physical spaces in my life, piling up for years. Always squeezing myself into corners I barely fit into. Too overwhelmed to face it. I needed to adapt. I needed to change. So here is the pretty part of the process. The last pile of random projects, uncategorized fabric, and 10+ years worth of scraps, after 5 weeks of gutting and redoing my spaces. I love this photo. It’s somehow a perfect capture of what cleaning up actually looks like. Of course, creative chaos will always emerge again, but to start from a clean slate ready for the incoming fullness of the season is going to be a transformational experience. so excited for the next chapter … 😌

Excited to be sharing a series of our time from @destinationdowntown.van Coal Harbour activation! As a performer and costumer in the Pacific Northwest, @amarainfinite felt it was high time that we actually had some rain appropriate costumes for outdoor events! So here is the first version of our rainy days characters. I think they will get some good use around these parts… šŸ˜ā˜”ļøāœØ Much love to @eventlab_van !šŸ’— Beautiful captures by SchwartzFoto!

Happy Northern hemisphere spring y’all!! My first job was at a costume shop called Columbia Costumes when I was 14 years old… I’ve always loved sewing and dressing up and creating of all kinds, and I was very inspired by the woman who owned the shop. She was incredibly skilled, and when she closed down the shop about a year after I started working there, I was so thrilled to take home two of the costumes she made. This peach colored dress is one of those and I’m so excited anytime I get to take it out for a spin! šŸ‘ 🌸 Thanks to Amira of @threemetretheatre for walking with me all day as my bunny companion, Petra Cottontail. #vintagecostumes #costumemakers #artistappreciation #inspired #keepmaking

A friend once said to me: you know, not every single gig has to be like an episode of drag race with a new costume… Well, unfortunately that’s not how my brain works. Lol. So here I am with a brand new fitness freak / aerobics stilt costume, and with it a new version of my act that I’m so into. šŸ˜… I’ve got to say, I am freaking loving the sweatpant stilt covers especially. So freaking much fun crafting this hilarious number with my crafty as sweety @christophilus.wall The biggest flex in life is being able to ask for help and accepting it, and having the blessing of talented and inspired people around you to craft and play with. And don’t forget: the opposite of fitting in is belonging, so don’t shrink yourself for any reason, even if the ceilings are low. šŸ˜‰ PS. I know it’s a crazy way to live as a professional performer, but it’s such a huge part of the art for me. The fact that I craft the majority of my costumes, and sometimes other peoples, gives me a unique edge and creative expression that I value so highly as a performing artist, and is such a huge part of the entire expression. Every stage act, every roving character is also a runway to share my ideas and designs. I have so much more learning to do in the area of crafting and designing, but that doesn’t stop me from doing it. this bodysuit was a trip to work on, but it definitely was a great learning experience. Big love to you all cuties! #newcostume #aerbobics #workout #stiltperformer #acrostilts #helpers #collaboration #80sfashion #fitnessfashion #stiltwalker

Abs brought to you by my hard work and some contouring make up 🤣 When building a new act or reworking an old one, I usually know that I’m on a good track if I can’t stop snort laughing and chuckling the whole time I’m working on the material… For more serious themes, it can also be feeling my emotions rising to the surface while and creating and landing on ideas… Bringing back an old clown act (SPF - if you know you know šŸ˜‰) and super imposing it over top of my Stilt-hoop multi tasking cabaret number was a total freaking blast. Now, I have a fourth version of this act, this one the 80s aerobics super fitness workout vibe… āœØšŸ‹ļøā€ā™€ļøāœØ What a fun opportunity, a hilarious theme to be my inspiration, and a dream come true! I’ve now performed versions of this act in six cities and three countries in the last couple years. šŸ’—šŸ’—šŸ’— Couldn’t have done it without all the amazing help constructing the stilts and costume pieces with šŸ’— @christophilus.wall

Well, after showing pics of my flat behind on my stories and asking for advice about a month and a half ago, I have finally made a little reel for you all, to show off the finished and booty flattering amended project! Unfortunately, I was too deep in the chaotic costume production madness to stop and film the process, but basically what happened is this: I initially used a vintage swimsuit shaped pattern that has a pretty wide behind, and so when I cut it into shorts it just became a pancake. So I had to re-cut fresh fabric using a different pattern that is designed to be cut into shorts and voilĆ ! It worked. I also used some of the advice given to me by an awesome friend to add a little bit more drop into the crotch shape to give a bit more space for each cheek. I’m really happy with how this costume turned out minus a little bit of adjusting on the back that needs to happen. I am so thrilled about bringing this fabric into my collection, and for future @circusamara costumes! Thankfully, the original fail actually worked once I cut it into a bikini cut on the bottom… So, eventually, it will be a sweet new costume to match this one. šŸ‘©ā€šŸ³šŸ’‹āœØ #booty #sewingfails #expensivemistakes #sequins #learning #circuscostumes #success #againonlybetter #✨

Ariel here from the November 2023 cohort. I’ve had this reel sitting in my drafts for about a month now, and I decided it was finally time to send it out. Just another awesome moment of reflecting on my time at Makerlabs participating in the Tools For Change Residency and how much fun I had, how much I learned, and how much I developed as an artist overall. My main take away from it, is a feeling of empowerment. Even when things were hard, or I didn’t totally understand them, there was a sense that I was somehow gaining access to a world and into a skill and to an understanding of something that I didn’t previously have, and I’m grateful for that. One of the things that stood out for me the most was when I learned that when @makerlabs started doing the tools residency for women and non-binary folk, it totally balanced out their membership base, which had previously been almost entirely men. It’s now around 50-50. Thank you for being an example of creating access and equal opportunity! So excited to come back and make more things with you all when I return in the spring from my sabbatical and reconnection with my love in Australia. šŸ„°šŸ’āœØ #makersgonnamake #makers #toolsforchange #toolsforwomen #womenintrades #womeninbusiness #womenartists #equalopportunity #woodworking #makerlabs

Gregorian New Year’s Eve 2023/2024 ✨✨✨The Ice Queen Makeover✨✨✨ I realized it was time. Time for the ice queen to have a beautiful long white dress, something fresh, something new. Something sassy… Something fit for the crown on her head. Specifically designed for adult indoor events. There are more adornments to add to this costume, but it was perfect for this environment, so glad I didn’t add the fur components, as I was already melting as it was! Excited to make a warm layered version to up my winter queen game for future seasons. Thank you again so much @_carlycampbell & @twisteddotca for having me out for the night! Endless gratitude and admiration to the visionary @missgdesigns ā„ļøšŸ¤ā„ļø who made the crown! In this strange time warp in which we exist, spinning through space, I’m excited about this next rotation, whatever happens between now and the next time we’re at a similar but different place in Orbit, I hope there is true healing, well-being and care for all! #stiltperformer #icequeen #ladywinter #melting #circuslife #winterseason #reflection #wintersolstice #stiltcharacter #ā„ļø #šŸ¤ #✨

What a wonderful journey, I’ve learned so much and I have so much to learn! This reel shows the majority of my work through the time that I’ve been in the residency, minus a few pieces that were given as gifts or are mid process. I am excited and sad that I’ve come to the end of our residency for the November cohort, but all three of us ended up extending our membership into January so we can keep working on projects and keep practising what we’ve learned. And I’m very sure it is not the last time I will be around Makerlabs producing who knows what. I will share one more fun process reel, but in the meantime, I wanted to celebrate the final show where I got to share the scope of my work alongside Jeannie and Michelle. Their work was awesome and it was great to see what they accomplished! Thanks so much for joining me along this journey! You can stay connected to me through @amarainfinite and if you ever want a beautiful delicate honey dipper, you know who to reach out to… 😘 Huge thank you to Makerlabs and to all of our mentors, plus everyone else who helped us out along the way! What a dream it’s been. P.S. I didn’t finish my giant prop furniture in time for the show because it was actually quite a hefty project. However, I am excited to have learned so much that will help me work on creating the best design possible and I’ve got my prototype a third of the way finished. šŸŽ‰āœØ #toolsforchange #womenintrades #womenartists #multidisciplinary #maker #makerlabsvancouver

Lathe love continues to deepen… Last week I discovered what a #molinillo is - a traditional tool from Mexico used to whisk drinking chocolate… So I decided to give it a try… and it worked! My first captive rings on the #lathe ! Too bad it exploded at the end. šŸ’„ This video shows most of the process and all of my small lathe projects so far. I swear I’ve got other stuff on the go… šŸ˜†šŸ’« The process: Lathe setup Making the dowel Carving out the shapes Releasing the finished piece And any expectations of perfection as I learn More soon! #toolsforchange #womenmakers #ilovelathe #woodturning #learning #toolsresidency #makerlabs
